When Friday finally came, so did the nerves. Sophia cancelled the hairdresser when she heard about the date and had come over to help me get ready.
“So he really didn’t say anything about what you’re gonna do?” she asked stressed.
“No, he told me to just wear a dress or something”, I told her again and fell back on the bed.
“He’s such a guy”, she said, clearly frustrated as she scanned the dressed in my closet.
“How about this?” she held up a nice loose red dress I wore to a wedding party once.
“Isn’t it too much?” I asked, not sure if it was or not. I mean I really liked the dress but I don’t want to look all fancy when he would just take me to the movies or something.
“And what if you wear it with a jeans jacket. Then if you feel underdressed, you can just lose the jacket” And thank you Sophia.
“Perfect”, I said and she handed me the clothing. I went with some white sneakers cause I’m a tall b***h anyway. Good things most of the guys at school are as well.
“Allright, allright, lemme see”, Sophia took a few steps back and motioned for me to turn.
“You’re missing something”, she said, scanning me to look what it is.
“I thought that too”, I looked at the door and saw my mother standing in the doorway, doing the exact same as Sophia. I couldn’t help but laugh about that.
“A necklace?”, Sophia turned to my mother and she nodded.
“Be right back, don’t move”, my mother said and walked out of the room. After a minute she came back and held a familiar necklace in her hand.
“Mom…”, I said as I looked at the necklace my grandmother used to wear. She passed away a few years ago.
My mother didn’t say anything and stepped behind me, putting the necklace on.
“There”, I heard her say before she went to stand next to Sophia.
“Perfect”, Sophia said and my mom nodded in agreement.
“Now we just have to wa-“, Sophia said, being interrupted by the doorbell.
“Perfect timing. Let’s go”, she said as she and mom both started to usher me downstairs.
The both smiled at me brightly as they waited for me to answer the door. I shook my head at them before opening the door.
“Hey”, he said, his eyes glued to mine. He was looking dashingly handsome but then again, it’s Liam.
I stepped outside, hanging my purse over my shoulder “Hey”
“You look beautiful” he eyed me over, flashing me his perfect smile when his eyes met mine again.
“Thanks, you don’t look too bad yourself”, I told him, earning a chuckle from the two behind me.
“Let’s go?” I said and looked back one time at my mother and Sophia who both gave me a thumps up before closing the front door. I guess Sophia’s staying until I’m back.
We got in the car and he wouldn’t tell me where were going, much to my annoyance. When the car slowed down, my mouth dropped as we drove up to one of the fanciest restaurant in town. Holy s**t. I was suddenly really happy Sophia choose this dress.
Liam parked his car and he being the gentleman he is, ran to my site to open the door for me.
“Reservation for Marshall”, he told the waiter when we walked in while tightly holding my hand.
“Follow me”, the waited spoke and walked us to a fancy table that looked out on a beautiful garden. Damn, it’s nice to be rich.
We both sat down and started scanning the menu.
“You got any suggestions”, I looked up at him as I didn’t even understand half of the word on the menu. What on earth is even ‘Bouillabaisse’?
“Anything you do or don’t like to eat?” he asked, lifting his eyes from the menu.
“I’m not really a picky eater, just rather no fish”, I told him as my eyes started scanning the restaurant.
“No bouillabaisse for you then”, he chuckled and continued to scan his menu. So that’s what that was.
His phone on the table was constantly lighting up, stealing my attention. I saw Matthew name and slightly raised my eyebrow. Didn’t know those two were friends. Liam put down his menu and followed my gaze to his phone, taking it and putting it into his pocket. Kean on privacy I see.
“It’s not urgent is it?” I asked as it seemed they really wanted to reach him.
“Nah, just someone from school” K then.
“Are you two ready to order?” Another waiter asked, ready to write down our order.
Liam ordered for the both of us and not even twenty minutes later the food arrived. He got me some kind of pasta and I fell in love right there and then. If I only got to chose one thing to eat for the rest of my life, this would be it. At least that’s what I thought before they brought dessert…
“So, you got any idea what you wanna do next year?” Liam asked me.
“I’m not sure. I know studying is important but I don’t see myself studying for years for something that I just chose because I had to”
“But I think I’ll start business next year. It appeals the most to me”, I added.
“That’s nice. I could ask my dad if he could fix an internship for you in the company if you’d like”, he said, eating another spoon full of ice-cream.
“Really?”
“Of course”, he smiled brightly at me and I immediately thanked him.
“How about you?” I asked him after finishing up the delicious desert.
“I’m supposed to take over dads company so that’ll be business as well for me”
“Is that what you want tho?” I asked him. I’d hate to do something just because I was ‘meant’ to do it.
“I guess. And who knows, maybe we’ll be colleagues later”, he said, c*****g a brow.
“Yeah, more like you’d be my boss”, I laughed as the waiters came and collected our plates.
“So if you didn’t have to do anything, where would you go?” he asked as he motioned for the waiter to bring the check.
“I’d love to just travel the world. I would keep visiting different places until I found something that would make me stay”
“Wow, that’s some deep s**t” i***t…
“What’s you dream then?”
“I’m a simple guy, Ella. All I want is to be happy”, he said and I placed my hand on my heart “That’s beautiful”
“Just like you”, he said, smirking like crazy. So we getting cheesy now huh?
“Thanks”, I just said as the waiter came back and Liam payed for the food. Just for the record, I told him I’d pay my own food but he wouldn’t have it so…
“Would you like to drive or walk home?” he asked me, helping me up and putting the jacket back on.
“I’d like a walk”, I said, turning back to him.
“I hoped you’d say that”
Liam had taken my hand and we walked back to my house. He took us through a park, I had seen it before when I passed by but I never thought about going there. A shame really, because it was beautiful. Some people were walking the dog, some teenagers were having a drink together and others were having a walk like us as well. It was peaceful as we both just walked in silence, enjoying the nature.
“Here we are”, I said when we walked up the porch.
“I’m sorry I have to go already. I promise I’ll make it up to you”, he explained again.
“Really, it’s no problem”, I reassured him and he lightly smiled at me.
“I hope you had fun”, I nodded and looked down to open my purse.
“I did”, I said and took my keys out. Looking back at him, his eyes were switching from my eyes to my lips. Is he gonna do it?
“Goodnight Ella”, he said and pressed a soft kiss on my forehead, his hands carefully resting on my shoulders before taking a step back.
“Goodnight”, I said and opened the front door. A kiss is a kiss right?
He sweetly smiled at me one last time and I waved at him before I closed the door.
