“Can’t believe you guys dragged me all the way here”, Jason whined when we walked over the crowded parking. The school organized a Christmas event and Matthew, Oliver, Sarah, Sophia and I decided to check it out, Matthew dragging Jason along. The field next to the school was filled with stalls and small attractians where all the students and parents were having a nice time.
“Oh relax, you big baby”, Sarah hit his arm only to receive a glare from him. These two could literally go off at each other for nothing.
“Don’t start anything you two. I don’t want to play peacekeeper today”, Matthew interjected but a gasp from Jason grabbed our attention again.
“Oh s**t”, I looked over at Jason and followed his gaze to Ethan who came our way. He started pulling Matthew who just amusingly looked at his friend.
“Where are you going?” I asked him, already knowing the answer. Ethan has been not so subtlety flirting with Jason for the last couple of days and just the panic in Jason’s face was hilarious.
“Away, else he’ll start flirting again”, he threw out still trying to pull Matthew with him who just continued to smile.
“Fine”, he let go of Matthew and started dragging Oliver away who didn’t object. The two walked off and soon disappeared in the crowd.
“Hey Ethan”, Sophia greeted as he stepped up.
“Jason ran away again, didn’t he?” Ethan asked Matthew, who gave him a quick nod.
“Again?” I asked.
“Yeah it’s seem I’m up for a challenge with that one”, Ethan rubbed his hands together before going the same way the two boys just vanished in. I love this dude…
The rest of us continued to walk around. Even though it was pretty cold out, the atmosphere was incredibly nice. People enjoying their time with friends and family, it was hard not to smile as well. I wish every school would do this. We also ate some food from one of the stalls since it was already near 6 and most of us had gotten hungry.
“So have you guys heard William?” Sophia spoke after a bit, Sarah shaking her head no.
“Him and Rachel have been going out”, Sophia continued rambling as I took my phone out to check for any new messages.
-I’ve got a dare for you – unknown
And there goes my peaceful day.
-What is it? –
-I want a kiss ;) – unknown
I rolled my eyes and typed a reply.
-And now for the real dare? –
-I wish it was the real dare tho. Anyway, do you see principal Davis?– unknown
I looked up and laughed as I saw him standing about thirty feet away. It was hard not to notice him, he was literally dressed as a santa.
-Yes? –
-I want you to steal santa’s hat but if he catches you, you fail – unknown
-Why do you always make me do s**t that gets me in trouble -
-Want me to come up with something else babe? – unknown
-No -
Not risking it, he’ll probably come up with something worse.
“Sarah, I need your help”, I looked up to see her narrow her eyes at me. “What to you need?”
“Can you distract principal Davis for me?” I asked sweetly as the others continued their conversation.
“Why?”
“It’s for a dare” I motioned to my phone. She let out a big sigh before passing me and going into principal Davis’ direction. Thanks Sarah.
I slowly approached with Sarah throwing me a few glances, probably wondering what on earth I’m planning on doing. Just grab it and run, easy game… Until I get caught, that is.
I stopped when I stood right behind him and took a last deep breath. Snatching the hat, I quickly turned around and started running, my heart going a hundred miles per hour. I heard him calling after me but I just continued to push through people until I didn’t hear him anymore. This game really is gonna give me heart problems…
I stopped running and bent down, resting my hands on my knees to take a breath.
“b***h”, I looked behind me to see Sarah catching up with me. I sheepishly smiled at her and started walking through the people again, Sara following my actions.
“You should have told me you were gonna do that”, she halfly glared. I laughed at her and looked forward again when I felt my shoulder bump into someone, throwing out a quick sorry.
“Hey”, I saw Adam, softly rubbing his shoulder.
“Hey”, I greeted him back but he didn’t seem to be in his normal cheery mood as his eyes looked kinda dull.
“You here with your friends?” he asked, quickly giving Sarah a nod.
“Yeah, you with Liam and James?”
“Yes, I was just on my way to meet them”, he said but I felt eyes on me and looked next to me to a few kids stupidly looking at me. They were talking to each other but they continued to throw a few glances at me. Probably because I just stole the principals santa hat.
Adam seemed to notice my discomfort with them and angrily turned to them.
“What?” he yelled at them and they immediately scrambled away.
“Thanks”, I told him but the scowl remained on his face. Something’s definitely up with him.
“No problem, I’ll see you later”, he said before stiffly walking away. I’ll guess I’ll ask Michelle later.
“He seems off”, I stated as Adam disappeared out of view. I turned to Sarah to see her with a weird look on her face as well.
“His sister died three years ago, today”, she explained.
“That’s awful”, I said, understanding why he felt a little distant. Michelle never told me he had a sister…
I went to ask Sarah how it happened but my eyes focused to a crying Sophia walking our way.
“What the hell happened?” Sarah asked as Sophia quietly looked down.
“It’s nothing”
“I can see that”, Sarah spoke as I felt her grow angry already. That’s Sarah. Hurt her friends and she’ll hurt you.
“What’s going on?” I asked her and took her hand, softly holding it in mine. She looked up and let out a big breath before she finally answered “Ashley’s making a story go around”.
“What story?” Sarah and I asked simultaneously. Knowing Ashley’s involved already tells me that it’s bad.
“She’s telling everyone that I’m a pathetic, stupid girl for being friends with you”, Sophia told me, making my eyebrows go up. What the f**k?
“Why is that?” Sarah asked, clearly agitated as well.
“She’s calling Ella a w***e and thinks I’m even worse because I’m letting her ‘f**k’ with Oliver now that it’s over with Liam. She says I’m just that hopeless because I’m in love with Oliver but that everyone knows he doesn’t want me”, she finished in tears and my mouth hung wide open as I couldn’t believe what she just told me. That. b***h.
Why are people like this?
“So she’s calling Ella a w***e and you hopeless and pathetic?”, Sarah summarized and Sophia quietly nodded, while Sarah and I looked like we were ready to explode.
“I’m gonna kill that b***h”, Sarah commented, ready to go but I stopped her.
“Can I go first?” I asked and she nodded, stepping back to where she previously stood.
I stepped away from the two and finally understood the glances I had been getting.
Now I was f*****g seeing red.
How pathetic can you be?
I stomped around, my eyes stopping when they found the particular blond.
“Oh, hey Ella. How are you doing?” Ashley asked innocently when I walked up to her.
“What the f**k is wrong with you?”
“What are you talking about?” she asked but the stupid smile on her face told me differently.
“You know damn well what I’m talking about”, I yelled, earning weird looks from the people around us but I couldn’t care less. She just scrunched her brows together and pouted her lips, acting like the ‘innocent’ f**k she was.
“You know what, I don’t care that you call me a w***e and whatever but telling everyone I’m sleeping with Oliver and that Sophia is pathetic for still being my friend is just low and complete bullshit”
“Well you two are f*****g”, she said as if it were true.
“No, we’re not”, I yelled.
“I heard the guys talking about it how you f****d him at your party so you can drop the innocent act”, she said, sounding arrogant as f**k and that triggered me even more.
“It isn’t an act, Ashley. There is nothing between Oliver and I”, I said through gritted teeth. She’s really starting to play on my nerves.
“Even if there was, what would give you the right to talk s**t about us like that?” I asked and she looked at me confused. Is she for real?
“Well, I don’t care”, she casually stated, looking at her nails like this was the most useless conversation possible.
“You should because you’re hurting people” Doesn’t this girl have a conscious?
“I’m hurting people? What about me? People constantly call me names and s**t but that’s okay?” she said, now sounding irritated as well.
“You know people just treat you the way you treat them, right?”, I told her. Doesn’t she have any good friends that tell her that?
“Literally everyone hates me, don’t they? You even made Liam hate me” So that’s what it’s all about. She’s just so far gone in the act of being bitchy, she doesn’t know how to get out of it anymore.
“You’re still in love with him, aren’t you?”
“It doesn’t matter because I’m a bad person”, she diverted her eyes down.
“Then why don’t you change?”
“Easy for you to say, everyone loves you. I don’t even know how to make people like me”
“Then let me help you” Her eyes snapped up as she looked at me confused. Why am I being nice to her? Because I know all about putting up walls and that’s exactly what she’s doing. Putting up walls might keep you from getting her but they also keep the good things out.
“Why would you do that?”
“Because I would want someone to do the same for me”, I answered her.
“But I’ve been awful to you”, she said, looking down guilty as parts of her walls went down. Some walls are easy to break, especially if the person wants them down as well.
“Better make it up to me then”, I smiled at her, which she shyly returned. Who would have thought? I felt something soft fall on my head and we both looked up to see the sky had completely turned grey, the first raindrops making their way down.
“s**t”, Ashley said taking her phone out.
“Something wrong?”
“My dad was supposed to pick me up but that isn’t for another two hours”, she said, nervously looking around.
“Why don’t you wait for him at my place? I’m pretty sure it’s gonna storm soon”
“Really?” she asked.
“Follow me”, I smiled at her and we both walked to my scooter.
“So?” I asked Ashley as she just finished her call with her dad after we arrived at my place. The weather was already pretty bad outside and I had just told her she could stay over till tomorrow. I wouldn’t like to be alone at night with this weather anyway.
“He’ll come pick me up tomorrow morning”, she answered putting her phone away.
“Good. So you wanna watch some tv or something?” I asked.
“Sure but nothing too long, I’m already pretty sleepy”, she said, plopping down on the couch.
“Okay. You want something from the kitchen?” I asker her.
“Just some water please”, she responded and I nodded, walking over to the kitchen.
It’s kind of weird but I’m not bothered by her being here. Who knows, maybe we’ll become friends?
I walked over to the fridge and took out two water bottles. Do I want chips or no? Or maybe ice-cream?
“Ella?” I heard Ashley calling from the living room.
“Yeah?” I yelled back, grabbing a bag of chips from the cabinet.
“Your dad is calling” Say what now?
“Should I pick up?”
“NOO”, I dropped everything and ran back to her, taking the phone and declining the call. After all these years, he finally decides to call me. I wasn’t even sure if it was still the right number…
I lifted my confused gaze from the phone and spoke “Sorry, just got a rocky relationship with my dad” That’s one way of putting it…
“That’s fine, I was ju-“
The sound of the doorbell made us both jump up and look at the door. Who the hell would go out in this weather? Suddenly the anger at me father was forgotten as I felt creeped out by the visitor.
I walked to the door and cautiously opened it, gasping as I saw Adam standing there, completely drenched.
He stepped closer to the door and looked up at me “I need you”
