CHAPTER 11: THE FREQUENCY OF THE SOUL The air in the collapsing Shadow-Realm was a thick, oily smog that tasted of forgotten sorrows. Asmodeus stood between the two figures, his chest heaving, his gold-tipped horns radiating a frantic, violet pulse. To any other eye, the two Jophiels were identical. They shared the same iridescent wings, the same moon-pale skin, and the same defiant gold in their eyes. "Asmodeus, look at me!" the figure on the left cried out, her voice a perfect crystalline melody. "The shadows are trying to trick your mind. I am the one who fell for you! I am the one who felt your heart in the thunder!" "Don't listen to her!" the figure on the right shouted, her hands reaching out in a gesture of "extra romantic" longing. "I am the one you saved from the grotto. I am the one who gave you my grace to heal your wings!" The Shadow-Weavers hissed from the periphery, circling like vultures. They didn't need to kill him; they only needed him to choose wrong. A Prince of the Pit killing his own light would be a blow that would shatter the "Third Realm" before it even truly began. THE MATURE DISCERNMENT Asmodeus lowered his claws. His breathing slowed. He closed his black-void eyes, shutting out the visual perfection of the mimicry. "You both have her voice," he murmured, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous rumble. "You both have her face. But Jophiel isn't a collection of memories or a set of features." He walked toward the figure on the left. She smiled, a look of triumph crossing her face. But as he reached her, he didn't embrace her. He gripped her throat with a hand that could crush mountains. "You speak of 'falling' for me," he snarled. "You speak of the 'thunder.' You speak of me as if I am a legend you read in a book." He turned his head toward the figure on the right. She wasn't smiling. She was watching him with a "mature-minded" sadness, her hand pressed against her own chest, right where her heart beat in sync with his. "The real Jophiel," Asmodeus said, his voice softening with an "extra romantic" reverence that made the shadows scream in agony, "doesn't love me because I am a Prince. She loves me because she saw the man who was lonely in the light. And she didn't 'give' me her grace—she shared it, so we could be monsters together." With a roar, he threw the mimic into the abyss and lunged for the real Jophiel, pulling her into a protective, bone-crushing embrace. The shadow-double shrieked, its form dissolving into a swarm of black flies as it realized the "scary caring" of a demon was a lock no key could pick. THE UNEXPECTED ALLIES Just as the floor of the dimension began to dissolve into nothingness, a spear of pure emerald light pierced the darkness. "Down here!" a voice commanded. A Muslim Angel named Zariel, clad in robes of woven starlight and silver, descended on wings of white flame. Beside him, a Mami Wata warrior rose from a sudden geyser of enchanted water, her trident glowing with the power of the deep. "The Sultan sent us," Zariel said, his eyes scanning the collapsing realm with a "mature" focus. "The Shadow-Weavers have opened portals across the mortal world. If we don't leave now, the bridge between your souls will be the only thing left of this universe." "He's right," the Water Spirit hissed. "The Beelzebub has reached the Forbidden Forest. He is burning the Dryads to draw you out, Asmodeus." THE SACRILEGIOUS COMMAND Asmodeus felt the rage return, but this time, it was tempered by Jophiel’s hand on his cheek. She looked at him, her eyes burning with a new, lethal authority. "We are not just survivors anymore, Asmodeus," she said, her voice echoing with the power of a Queen. "Zariel, take the Jinn and the Muslim Angels to the North. Protect the Forest Spirits. Mami Wata, call the Sea Serpents; drown the fires in the south." She turned back to Asmodeus, her wings brushing against his. "And us? We go to the heart of the swarm. We show them that an Angel and a Demon don't just bridge the gap—they rule it." Asmodeus smirked, the obsidian runes on his chest glowing a triumphant gold. "I love it when you take charge, my star." With a combined burst of violet energy, the four of them tore through the fabric of the Shadow-Realm, heading back to the world of the living. But as they flew, Asmodeus felt a cold shiver. The Evil Spirits weren't just attacking; they were building something. A tower of bone was rising in the distance, a conduit meant to siphon the power of their "extra romantic" bond and use it to enslave the Shapeshifters forever. T
