Selene ran until her lungs burned, the metallic taste of battle still on her tongue. Branches whipped at her skin, but she didn’t stop — not until she collapsed against a tree, chest heaving.
Damien’s words echoed in her mind, haunting her.
You’re mine.
Her wolf howled in agreement, aching to return to him, but Selene clenched her fists. No. He rejected us. He doesn’t get to change his mind whenever he feels like it.
Yet deep inside, her bond pulsed like a chain she couldn’t break.
Suddenly, a soft glow appeared in the clearing. The moonlight seemed to shift, brighter than ever, wrapping Selene in its silver embrace. She fell to her knees, overwhelmed by the sudden warmth coursing through her veins.
The Goddess.
A voice filled her mind, soft yet commanding.
Child of the Moon, your pain is not unseen. The bond between mates is sacred — but only you can decide its fate. He has wronged you, but destiny does not end with rejection.
Selene’s tears blurred her vision. “Why me? Why must I suffer this bond if he never wanted me?”
Because only the strongest hearts are tested this way, the Goddess whispered. And soon, a storm will come that no pack can face alone. You will have to choose — to fight beside him, or to walk your own path.
Before Selene could respond, the light faded, leaving her trembling and confused.
Back at the pack house, Damien paced furiously in his office. His wolf clawed at him, restless, demanding he go after her. His Beta, Marcus, stood in silence, watching his Alpha unravel.
“You’re losing control,” Marcus finally said. “She’s not just any wolf, Damien. She’s your mate. And if you don’t fix this… she may not be here when the real war begins.”
Damien slammed his fist against the desk, the wood cracking beneath his strength. His pride burned like a cage, but his wolf’s agony was worse.
Selene…
Outside, the wind howled, carrying the scent of danger. The rogues weren’t just a random attack. Something — or someone — was pulling the strings.
And both Damien and Selene were about to be caught in the center of it.
