Chapter 25 – Blood on the Moonlight

333 Words
The night air split with the sound of snarls, claws raking against flesh, and the thundering clash of wolves colliding. Selene’s silver wolf leapt into the fray, her fangs sinking into the throat of the first rogue that dared charge her. Blood sprayed across the dirt, hot and metallic, but there was no time to stop — another rogue was already lunging for her flank. She twisted, agile and lethal, striking low and fast. The Goddess’s power flickered faintly in her eyes, guiding her movements, making her strikes impossibly precise. Damien’s obsidian wolf was a beast of fury beside her, tearing through rogues with raw, brutal strength. Where Selene was sharp and swift, Damien was relentless force — and for the first time, they moved like one. A rhythm born not of practice, but of instinct. “Protect the Luna!” a warrior’s voice cried — and Selene froze for half a heartbeat. Luna. The word echoed, burned, seared into her chest. She wasn’t his Luna. Not yet. Not officially. But the way the pack saw her… the way her wolf swelled with pride at the title… A roar snapped her out of it — Damien had been shoved back by three rogues at once. Without thinking, Selene lunged forward, her claws tearing into their sides, knocking them away from him. Damien’s wolf looked at her, stunned for just a moment, before his growl deepened — not of anger, but of something far more dangerous. A vow. The battlefield blurred around them. Rogues poured in endless waves, and though bodies fell, the numbers kept coming. Selene’s chest heaved, her fur matted with blood — not all of it her own. Her strength was beginning to waver. Then, through the chaos, her wolf’s heightened senses caught it — a figure cloaked in black, standing just beyond the treeline, watching the s*******r with cold, glowing eyes. The rogues weren’t leaderless. Someone was commanding them. And Selene’s heart stopped when she realized… she knew that face.
