Chapter 26 – The Hidden Enemy

378 Words
The figure stepped from the shadows, and the battlefield froze for a heartbeat. Even the rogues seemed to hesitate, as though sensing the true power standing before them. Selene’s eyes widened. Her heart pounded. It was him. Damien’s brother, Kaelen — the one who had always lingered in the background, silent, calculating, always watching. His silver eyes gleamed with cruel intelligence, and a dark smirk curved his lips. “You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?” Kaelen’s voice carried over the chaos, smooth and deadly. “I’ve been waiting, watching, and now… the pack is mine to fracture.” Selene growled, her wolf snapping instinctively. Her claws dug into the dirt, her silver fur bristling. The bond tugged painfully at her chest, warning her of the danger this man posed. Damien’s wolf bared his teeth, the low rumble of his growl vibrating through the battlefield. “Kaelen,” he spat, stepping in front of Selene, claws flashing. “You’ll regret setting foot here.” Kaelen only laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. “Regret? Oh, brother, you’ll see what true power is tonight. The pack will fall… and the Luna will belong to me.” Selene’s blood ran cold. That single word — Luna — felt like a knife twisting in her chest. She clenched her fists, her silver fire flickering to life at her fingertips. “You don’t get to touch her,” Damien growled, shifting forward, ready to strike. Kaelen raised his hand, and suddenly, shadows surged from him, wolves twisted by dark magic, far stronger than the rogues. They lunged at the pack warriors, teeth and claws snapping with supernatural speed. Selene felt the Goddess’s power within her pulse wildly. This is it. This is the real test. Her silver flames ignited, wrapping around her claws, burning hotter, brighter, stronger than ever. She dove into the swarm, moving faster than thought, tearing through the dark wolves, her heart hammering with fear, rage, and determination. Damien fought at her side, his golden eyes locking on hers for a split second, silent communication passing between them: We survive. Together. And as Kaelen’s laughter echoed across the battlefield, Selene knew one thing: This war was far from over… and the storm had only just begun.
