Damien stood before the map of his territory, every muscle taut with rage and confusion. For days, the bond had been gnawing at him, a constant reminder of the woman he had cast aside. The woman he could no longer ignore.
He had thought himself free when he rejected me. Free to choose a Luna who would strengthen his pack, not “weaken” it. But now the bond burned hotter than ever, mocking him with every heartbeat.
His Beta shifted uneasily. “Alpha… if she’s alive, if she’s truly awakened something—”
“She has,” Damien interrupted, his voice like steel. His claws dug into the table, splintering the wood. “I can feel it.”
The Beta hesitated. “Then what do you plan to do?”
Damien’s eyes darkened, his wolf prowling just beneath the surface. “Find her. Bring her back.”
“But, Alpha—”
“Enough!” His growl shook the room. “She was mine before I let her go. I was a fool to believe she was nothing. Now that I know what she carries in her blood… no one else will have her.”
The Beta bowed his head but said nothing more. Orders were orders.
Damien turned toward the window, where the moon glowed cold and distant. His chest burned with something he refused to name — not guilt, not longing, but something fierce and consuming.
“Prepare a hunting party,” he commanded. “No matter where she runs, I will find her.”
---
Far away, under the same moon, I jolted awake from uneasy dreams. My wolf paced restlessly, her fur bristling.
“He’s moving,” Selene warned. “He’s coming.”
I pressed my hand against the mark on my wrist, its faint glow pulsing like a heartbeat. Fear knotted in my chest, but beneath it was something worse — anticipation.
The bond was no longer quiet.
Damien was coming for me.
And when he found me, nothing would ever be the same again.
