Chapter One: The Rejection

401 Words
The night air was cold against my skin as I walked into the grand hall of the Silver Moon Pack. All eyes turned to me, but none of them mattered. Tonight was my eighteenth birthday, the night I would finally discover my mate. My heart pounded in my chest with a mix of excitement and fear. For years, I had dreamed of this moment — of meeting the one the Moon Goddess chose for me. Maybe, just maybe, he would love me for who I was, not for what I lacked. The scent hit me before I saw him. Strong. Dominant. A mix of pine and storm. My breath caught in my throat. My wolf, Selene, howled in my head. “Mate.” And then I saw him. Alpha Damien Black. The most powerful Alpha in the region. Tall, broad shoulders, dark eyes that could command a room without a word. Every girl in the pack dreamed of him, and fate had bound him to me. For one brief, breathtaking second, I thought the universe had finally smiled on me. But then his lips curved into a cruel smile. “Aria,” he said, his voice echoing through the hall. “You’re my mate?” He laughed, cold and sharp, like broken glass. “This has to be a joke.” Whispers rippled through the crowd. Heat rushed to my cheeks, my chest tightening. “Why… why would it be a joke?” I managed to whisper, my voice trembling. Damien’s eyes darkened. “Because I will never accept you. You’re weak. Pathetic. You’re not fit to be my Luna.” The words struck harder than any physical blow. My heart cracked, splintering into pieces, as he stepped closer, towering over me. “In front of everyone here,” he said, his voice ringing with finality, “I, Alpha Damien Black, reject you, Aria Moon, as my mate.” Gasps filled the room. My knees trembled. My wolf whimpered in pain, clawing at my chest. The bond between us shattered, leaving me hollow. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. My whole world had collapsed in a single sentence. And yet… deep inside me, something stirred. A faint pulse of power, like a flame hidden beneath ashes. I didn’t know it yet, but that night — the night of my rejection — was also the night my true destiny began.
