Gilbert had never been the kind of person to overthink things, but that morning, every step he took felt heavier than usual. He left the dorm early, backpack slung over one shoulder, earbuds in but no music playing. The city was already alive outside campus, the air crisp with the scent of roasted beans from the café across the street. He told himself work would clear his head. It always did. Delivering packages meant motion, and motion meant silence — no room for thoughts to claw their way up. But today was different. Every time his phone buzzed with a new delivery request, Jeffrey’s voice echoed in the back of his mind. “No… that’s why I don’t even know who I am anymore.” Gilbert clicked his tongue, shaking off the thought.
