TWENTY TWO Return ‘Jibreel, behind you!’ he cried. The knight was frantically beating down on an adult Septlim lying in a crumpled heap, using the club Danika had given him. Consumed with rage, Jibreel failed to notice the second creature beyond, steadily righting itself, rising ominously from the blood river. Readying his double-handed sword, he prepared himself mentally to charge the enormous arachnid. Before he could engage the monster, however, flames exploded across its right flank, setting several of the creature’s limbs ablaze. ‘That was my last one!’ said Anika, reaching for her club. ‘Charge!’ They sprinted towards the injured Septlim, their pace slowed by the viscous red liquid clinging to their legs.
