"Dead or alive. When do you want me to cut you to pieces?"
As the person who saved Rain asked that, the clouds parted away from the moon, giving the girl a better visual of who this 'savior' was.
She was a female wearing a rabbit mask. Her hoodie was dark brown with the hood up, her long brown hair with tanned highlights poking out of the hoodie. From what Rain could see, her savior's icy blue eyes were glaring at her victim so coldly, as she raised her b****y knife, insinuating how serious she was in her question, if the pursuer’s lost arm was not yet enough to convince anyone.
The enemy could only tremble in fright upon her presence. “N-No… Please, don’t…” she weakly begged.
“So alive, then. As you wish,” the savior decided, raising her blade. As she was about to bring it down, a rock struck the flat side of the knife, causing her to cease her action and glance at the person who tossed it. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Rain trembled when the woman turned to her but did not sway to fear. “T-That’s enough…” she stuttered out. “Can’t you see she’s scared?! You don’t have to go so far!”
The woman sighed at her naïve words. “Do you really think it will end peacefully with just a simple death?” she questioned.
“I’m not saying that, either! Besides, there is no reason for you to-”
“-to kill them?” the woman finished for her. “Are you suggesting that just a simple threat, a warning, will be enough to make clear what we do and do not want? I believe you said it yourself. ‘Why can’t you people just leave me alone? I just want to live a normal life.’ Sounds to me that you had tried to talk them out of taking you, and yet, they still persist on capturing you. Can you truly tell me that everything will be flowers and rainbows from a simple chat? When your voice is constantly ignored by them?”
As she was distracted by Rain, the pursuer took the chance to slowly and silently crawl away from her as best as she could. Unfortunately for her, she did not get far, when the woman nonchalantly tossed the knife at her leg, pinning her in place, as she let out another painful scream.
Rain widened her eyes in shock at this. “Stop it!” Before she knew it, she dashed at the woman in an attempt to tackle her down, only for the woman to disappear, much to her surprise, as the teen came to a stop. Suddenly, she was struck from behind, and fell unconscious. She almost hit the ground, when the woman caught her.
“You’re far too fresh for this harsh reality. Even though you had to deal with that organization for so long…” she muttered, in a tone that sounded sad. The speedy savior then turned back to the pursuer, who tried so hard to remove the knife on her leg, only to fail to do so with one hand. The moment she turned to the enemy, the latter flinched and trembled, as the rabbit masked woman approached her. Next she knew, the woman singlehandedly pulled the knife out of her leg, causing her to hold back a painful cry. “Consider yourself lucky. You don’t be torn to pieces alive.” When she said that, a small, shaken smile formed on the pursuer's face. “Unfortunately, that does not mean you get to live.”
At that, the pursuer got up as fast as she could and attempted to run, limping as she did. Sadly for her, it was futile, for the woman quickly sped past her, and beheaded the girl. With the deed done, and Rain slung over the woman’s shoulder, the latter began to make her leave, when ringing was heard. She reached into her pocket, and took out a phone. Once she saw the name on it, she went ahead to answer it.
“Rabbit here,” she spoke.
“I saw you had used your ability on the radar,” came a female voice on the other end. “Have they come once more?”
“They have,” Rabbit answered. “Don’t worry, I took care of them. And saved the Freshie.”
“… I see… And how is she?”
“Unconscious. Can’t promise she’ll be in the right mind once she wakes, though.”
It was silent once more, as the person on the other line processed through what she meant. “… You did more than just kill them, didn't you?”
“She had to see it, for her safety.”
“Except, as you had called her, she is still fresh to this whole situation. Who knows how long she had been forced to be on the run? To try and find peace with what she really is. That is... what that organization made her believe she was. I understand you were trying to protect her, but you should know as well as any of us that that approach will not really get Freshies on our side. We need to show them we are their allies, that we would not hurt them like the enemy will. Showing that girl the length we go to keep those people away from us is far from the ideal action you should be taking.”
Rabbit was silent for a bit, reflecting on her actions earlier. “Yes, ma’am… I understand,” she spoke at last.
“Good… Now then, it’s late. Bring her back to the academy for proper rest,” the woman on the other line then ordered. “She's still not ready to know the truth about herself, much less know about us. Keep protecting her as you have been.”
"About that. Are you sure about this little waiting game?” Rabbit asked.
“I believe I already explained it. Do not make me repeat myself, Rabbit. As she is now, knowing the truth so soon would make her a liability. She needs to understand the past at her own pace. Forcing her to understand it will only make things worse. On the other hand, should she show any sign of losing control to her other self, no matter what the reason, you know what to do then.” Without another word, the call had ended.
The woman looked at the unconscious girl, who had an uneasy expression on her face. One look, and the woman was reminded of something in her past. Something that made her click her tongue and reluctantly abide to the command given to her. “What a nuisance…”
