It was a cold rainy evening inside the Vale's mansion. Selene was lying in her bed staring at the message she received from the unknown number. The more she felt curious about who was behind all the messages and pictures she had received from the previous days, the more she wanted to know.
One of the things she was worried about was Ace.
"Miss Selene..."
A sudden knock on the door brought her attention back to reality.
"What is it?"
"Dinner is served. Your parents are waiting."
After hearing those words, she sighed loudly.
It was another time that she would meet her parents, including her grandfather, who was always making her do things against her own will.
She finally rolled out of bed and went to the dining area.
When she arrived, her grandfather—Arturo Vale—greeted her.
"You're finally here."
Selene didn't say any words and sat on her assigned seat in the dining area.
The table was filled with lots of food the family usually asked for as a menu.
The maids served the food to everyone, and they started eating.
The room was quiet, and only the sound of the spoon and fork was heard.
Suddenly, her grandfather cleared his throat.
"Selene, tomorrow will be the official announcement of your engagement with Zane Blackwell."
Selene immediately stopped slicing the steak as soon as she heard what he said. Her appetite was already ruined by his announcement.
She wiped her mouth in modesty and looked at her grandfather with a blank expression.
"Do we really have to talk about that here?"
Arturo raised an eyebrow. "Do we have any other time to talk?"
The cold atmosphere suddenly arose because of their conversation.
For Selene, she already knew that this would happen, but she just wanted to enjoy the food, yet everything was ruined because of the topic.
Arturo turned to Sandra, who was currently looking at her daughter in worry.
"Sandra, help your daughter to prepare for tomorrow's announcement."
Sandra nodded hesitantly after hearing the command of her father-in-law.
"What if I tell you that I have feelings for someone else?"
The people in the room suddenly looked at Selene.
"Yes, I do have feelings for someone else. That's why I don't want this marriage to happen."
She insisted on giving cold stares at everyone, especially toward her grandfather.
The old man was not even moved.
"Feelings? Those words wouldn't matter as long as it talks about family safety."
"Well, it matters to me."
Before anyone could say another word, Selene walked out of the room and left everyone in the dining area.
Again, tears were flowing from her eyes as she entered her room, locking the door.
The night of the announcement finally came, and everyone from the Vale and Blackwell relatives were already there. They wanted to witness and hear the announcement for themselves.
The place was serenaded by the sophisticated sound of the piano.
Delicious food was served to everyone.
The guests wore beautiful and elegant dresses for the celebration.
All are excited to see the soon-to-be married couple.
Selene was wearing a beautiful red gown with a long slit on its left leg, exposing her smooth skin.
As she finally stepped out of the place, Zane was already waiting for her, wearing his black tuxedo suit and a red necktie.
No other words were uttered from either of them, only cold stares.
The night was full of exciting announcements from the Blackwells since they were the ones who invited everybody, but the highlight of the event was not announced yet.
Selene was sitting on her seat beside Zane when she saw Ace.
He was all alone in the corner.
Their eyes met.
She wanted to come to him.
She wanted to tell him that she didn't want these things with Zane.
She was totally expecting Ace to at least approach her, but he didn't. Instead, he walked away as if he never saw her.
Those gestures struck Selene.
Those stares from Ace were different.
It was never the usual Ace she knew.
For the first time, she felt that Ace was too far from her.
Then, her eyes drew toward the man sitting next to her.
She noticed that Zane was already staring at her.
"Follow me..."
Selene coldly told Zane.
Zane was hesitant to follow her since he was too tired of all her reasons and arguments.
But for Selene, it was something that she really wanted to do right now.
"I have to tell you something."
She said while looking at him.
Those stares were sincere, which made Zane curious about it. So, he finally stood up and followed Selene through the garden beside the venue.
They walked quietly, and the only noise they could hear was their footsteps.
Selene walked before Zane.
"What do you want?"
Selene finally stopped walking.
Slowly, she finally faced him. And to his surprise, she was crying.
Tears were flowing down her eyes. She gave Zane a sincere, quiet stare.
"Zane... Please..."
Then, she kneeled and looked up to him.
"Zane, please let me go."
After hearing those words, Zane smirked bitterly.
Selene looked at him innocently, thinking that those words she said were not enough to convince him.
"You still didn't get the point. Do you?"
"What do you mean?"
Silence suddenly surrounded them.
"Zane, I know you really don't want us to get married, right? We have the same concern. So, please help me."
Selene insisted and touched Zane's hand.
Those words made Zane even more angry.
"I don't have the time to listen to all of these stupid things."
Selene was dumbfounded and speechless.
It was her last resort.
Her last chance.
Her last hope.
Zane turned his back on her and finally left.
Selene sat in the garden.
She was looking at the stars.
"Why did you do that?"
Out of the darkness, she saw Ace, leaning on the wall.
Her eyes widened in shock because of that.
Ace saw everything.
"It's because of you."
Ace smirked and laughed a bit.
"What did I do?"
"Ace, I'm in love with you."
