The safari truck rumbles over a dirt road, bouncing enough that Megan lets out a delighted squeal every time we hit a bump. Caden’s got her sitting on his lap, arms wrapped around her tiny frame like she might fall out the second he blinks. James is beside me, wide-eyed, clinging to the open window bar and pointing wildly at every blur of movement in the bush. “Did you see that?! That was a lion!” he gasps, eyes nearly bugging out of his head. “That was a rock, baby,” I say gently, smiling. “But we’ll see one soon.” He slumps a little but keeps watching, determined.
