Daniel David was born to Stella and Teodulfo in June of 1923, given his godfather Dave"s name as his baptismal name. By now Gilberto and Beatrice had their own family started, and Sara and Gilbert Jr. were in the backyard playing with their cousins daily. Though the sisters were very close, Gilbert was a workaholic who was determined to avoid involvement in the business of his brothers. As a result, he and Teodulfo were friendly but never grew intimate.
Teodulfo had a phone installed that summer, and it proved to be a bigger hindrance than he anticipated. Stella"s sisters badgered their husbands to follow suit, and soon she was on the phone chatting with them throughout each day.
