Vine Of The HeavensGeshtinanna is a real goddess from the Middle East who had a small role in Egyptian mythology, much like some of the other gods and goddesses from the area (and from other African mythologies) were assimilated into the Egyptian pantheon when they were brought into the country by either invaders, immigrants, or slaves. Instead of erasing the other gods, they"d often become part of the Egyptian religion. The moment I started reading her story, and noticed the interesting parallels to Persephone, I knew that I needed to write a story about her, though it"s not a retelling of the legend.
