A Plot

Chapter 6. A Plot. Tori Nathan. It has been a week since I fled Miami as Mrs. Eleanor was hot on my tail. She had promised to clear all the medical debts we owed and also take care of Lily. We were currently in Ottawa, Canada's capital. The apartment which I currently occupied, still paid for by Eleanor Ravensworth, was beyond my expectations. I shuffled through my belongings as I began to settle into the new house. The air in another country was different from the one I was born into, even more refreshing. My phone rang, and I looked at it to find Mrs. Eleanor calling. I gulped as I picked up. “Have you settled in?” She asked coolly, her voice sharp and precise. “Yes, ma'am.” “Do you remember our deal?” “I do, ma'am. Very accurately.” I replied convincingly. “No matter what, Victoria.” She called my first name harshly. “Do not show your face in this country, nor should you have anything to do or try to reach out to my son!” “I understand that, ma'am.” I wasn't stupid. I was going to keep to my end of the bargain. Anything to keep Lily alive, I would do it. “Good.” She commented shortly. There was a small ruckus in the background before her icy voice came in again. “I have spoken to the hospital already. They have a heart waiting for your sister. Contact them as soon as you can.” And with that, the line went dead. I let out a large breath I didn't know I was holding. I gazed upwards, thankfully that Lily was going to be better, and hope bloomed in my chest. Mrs. Eleanor had promised to take care of Lily's medical bills until she was well, in compensation to her son's future actions towards me. Deep down, I felt really unsettled at how far she had to go to help Lily. All she had to do was threaten me to stay away from her son with her status as the first lady, but she went as far as covering all my debts in the previous hospitals. Even now, she had a heart prepared for Lily to get better. It was all too much to think about, and I shook my head. As far as Lily would be treated. She was my only family after our parents had died from drowning four years ago. I would not mess up this opportunity to save my sister. As I carried up my purse from the bed, I heard a sharp strike against the marble-tiled floor. I looked down, and on the floor were two small and black flash drives with silver edges. My curiosity piqued, and I bent low to pick them off the floor. How did these get into my bag? I quickly fetched my laptop and inserted the first flash. “Tori, are you with my small bag? The red one.” Lily came to the door, standing in her favorite teal short and singlet, her brows furrowed in a frown. “I can't find it, and I kept my drawing book inside it.” “It's inside my wardrobe.” I pointed to the large wardrobe by the corner. “Go change up, we are going to the hospital in the next ten minutes, okay?” She hummed a response, picked up the red bag and rushed out of the room. My eyes glanced back down into my computer and I tapped on the icon of the flash drive. There were two folders, each had a lot of videos and pictures in them. How did these even get into my bag? It must belong to someone, and I would be invading their personal space if I went through the flash. But, if I didn't go through it, how would I know who it belongs to so I can return it? I was contemplating really hard on the pros and cons when my fingers accidentally clicked one of the videos. It was a video of a building— specifically, the Ravensworth Corporation in Newcastle. There was nothing that really stood out in the video until it started showing the faces of people, one person really… Kaius Ravensworth. The flash contained everything about him, including the restaurants he preferred and the different women he had been seen with. I was slightly taken aback when I saw a video of Kaius and I stepping into… this was two years ago before I started working for his company. Had Kaius known me since then? Whoever owned this flash was definitely stalking Kaius. The next video I clicked was blank, but it was the first one that I could hear conversations. It was a recording. “How easy do you think it will be for him to be taken out of the picture?” The voice was dark. “He has a lot of dirt on us, and that is what is giving him the upper hand in the company. When and how are we going to kill the great Kaius Ravensworth?” “It won't be that easy…" Another voice, a female voice said this time. “But, at least, his mother is in on this. We should be guaranteed a sixty percent chance of success.” "That woman..." The man chucked darkly, "Look how far she is willing to go to see her only son buried in the ashes. I wonder what he might have done to her to make her hate him this much." "It's none of our business." The other woman's voice has turned really cold. "He doesn't belong to my father, that's why." She spat out distastefully. "And to think that my father wants to give him more than half of his will is something I would not accept. Kaius isn't even his biological son!" "Heh..." Another feminine voice said softly. "Don't be aggressive, sis. Kaius will regret ever being born. We have mom on our side this time. She wouldn't relent until he is six feet under our legs." Was this a plot... to kill Kai?
