Washington 1 Melissa’s pin had a bright red ruby in it.As she walked the Washington Mall she kept track of who noticed.Most passed by, but more than a few noticed and considered. Often,they were the bright staffers to the older elite: paid to carefullyfollow the social-political trends and know how to guide the rulersof America’s great capital, in decline perhaps but mightystill. The decline came from rot within America aswell as the rise of a new power. Describing the rot was the stuffof politics: nasty President? Political Correctness? Parties notable to put country before partisanship? Vagrancy? Intolerance?Tolerance? Immigrants? Confederacy?
