Chapter 9:

1293 Words
Emily’s POV It was Monday morning and I can say that I had the best weekend for once. I woke up at 4am like I usually do to get ready and have breakfast made for everyone before I leave for school. Nick said he’d drive me today, so that’s makes today even more exciting. I showered and did my daily bathroom routine before going back to my room to make my bed and get my work clothes prepared. Usually I bring my clothes with me to school, and since Nick is driving me I get to leave them here today, but I still like to be prepared. I made everyone breakfast and prepared dinner since I work tonight and cleaned up the kitchen before everyone else got up for the day. After I was done with cleaning I went back to my room to check my phone before placing it in my book bag. I received a text from Nick saying he’ll be outside in a couple minutes. I told him not to knock just in case my family was up. I leave for school super early because I like to be gone before my family is out of bed. No one knows I work during the week they just think I have after school prep, so they always tell me to have dinner made and put in the fridge for them to heat up. They’re never happy about it, but what else can I do when I need school clothes or school supplies. They won’t let me shop with them. I put my bag on my back and walked out the door. Nick had a maroon Chevy Malibu pulled up on the side of the road ready for me to get in. Once I was buckled we were on our way to school. “Good morning! Would you like to stop off at the cafe before going to school?” Nick asked. “I’d love that! I never have enough time to get a coffee before school!” I said excitedly. We got to the cafe and placed our orders. I paid for both of them since he was taking me to school even though we fought over me paying. Nick eventually gave in and told me he’d get us next time. Once our orders were ready we went made our way towards the school. We sat in the parking lot and ate our muffins and drank our coffee until it was time for us to go in. We were still inside before anyone really showed up, but I could tell he was nervous to start school today. We went to the office to introduce himself as a new student and they handed over his schedule. Lucky for us we had all the same classes and the guidance counselor appointed me to usher him around the school to get him acclimated since I was one of the top students in our grade. We stopped off at his locker first for him to get everything he needed put away before grabbing the supplies he needed for first class. We went to my locker next, so I could put my stuff away and grab my first class supplies as well. The first half of the day went well. For once I wasn’t bullied and the touring was going great. He sits next to me in all the first half of classes, because no one like to sit near me. Which is great for me. I have a friend finally and he seems to keep all my bullies away for the time being. We made it to lunch and went through the lunch line. We sauntered over to the furthest table in the center of the cafeteria and put our meals down. “Well well well, who do we have here?” Chloe, my tormentor said while pulling up a strand of my hair like it was disgusting. I just looked at her dead panned ready for the filthy remarks she usually makes. “You know, since you’re new here you should hang out with us cool kids over at that table.” She pointed towards the middle table in the first row of tables. “I’m Nick, first off and second of all I think I’m good here. Emily is showing me around school and I don’t want to leave her.” He replied smugly. “Suit yourself. You’ll become a loser faster than you can snap your fingers if you continue hanging out with her.” She gave a disgusted look pointed towards me. “If you change your mind. You know where to find me.” She said running her hand up his arm before walking away to her table. “What a weirdo, I’d prefer to hangout with you over any of them any day.” Nick said while moving himself forward to face me. The rest of lunch went by without any more issues coming up. Next was getting through the last half of the day. And going to work. The last half of the day went by smoothly as well and Nick felt pretty good with all of his classes. We walked to our lockers together and put our stuff away and honestly it felt really nice having someone by my side throughout the day. I would have Amelia by my side if she wasn’t in a different building, but having 2 friends is nice for a change. We got to the car and drove back to my house. I changed into my work clothes and made myself some lunch real fast before going to work. I made sure I had everything and walked out the front door making sure to lock it behind me, so no one knew I came home. I was walking towards town when I heard a car driving up next to me. I figured it was just someone driving past, but they stopped and I soon realized it was Nick telling me to get in so I wouldn’t have to walk and be sweaty before clocking in for my shift. It’s only been 2 days of getting to know Nick and he’s growing on me a lot. I love his company and he always knows what to say during a difficult time. The entire ride to work was silent and as I was getting ready to step out of the car Nick told me he’d be here to pick me up after my shift was over. I nodded and headed inside the diner. I clocked in earlier than normal, so I decided I would start my side work early tonight and be able to stay on tables longer than normal and still get out on time. Dinner shift was pretty normal for a Monday night. Slow, but steady. I made decent tips as usual which goes into my secret storage for savings. Tomorrow I get paid which goes into my secret bank account that no one knows about. I did very little sidework that I had left and said goodbye to everyone before clocking out for the night. As I was stepping outside Nick pulled up in front right in time and took me home. When I got inside I did the dishes from dinner and washed up before going to bed. I sent a quick text to Nick telling him goodnight and thank you for everything and just being there. It means so much to finally have someone with me throughout the day to talk to and crack a couple jokes here and there. I put my phone on the charger in my nightstand and rolled over. Overall, I have a good feeling about what’s about to come and looking towards my future.
