Nickolas POV
I closed my window after making plans with the heavenly girl I saw yesterday wondering how she got new bruises on her face. You can tell she tried to cover it up with some makeup, but you can definitely see they are there. As I got ready for the day excited that I got a chance to talk to her and know more about her before heading over to her house. I got to the front door and gave myself a pep talk before going out. Finally after a couple of minutes of talking to myself I opened the door and made my way to her driveway.
I got to her driveway and remembered I didn’t let my parents know that I was leaving. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and sent a quick text to them and a group chat notifying them that I was walking around town with the girl next door. They replied quickly and told me they were happy I could make a friend before school started. I heard movement by the door preparing myself for the beauty that’ll be showing me around.
When she opened the door she had the most amazing eyes. Bright crystal blue, but I noticed a closed off missing piece like she was lost. I brushed it off and spoke first as she was walking towards me. “I know it’s early and I appreciate you taking the time to show me around.” I said trying not to sound nervous. She looked at me and said with a small smile. “It’s my pleasure, I don’t get out much. I appreciate you for asking.” She had a disconnect while saying the first part. It seemed like she wanted to say more, but chose to cut it short instead.
We walked in the direction I walked yesterday and she pointed out the small cafe I went to yesterday saying that it used to be a mom and pop shop that went out of business. This girl seems so sweet I’m so happy I asked her to take me around town. We walked a bit further passing by the lake, and she told me that the school was up ahead. “Well that’s a nice walking distance from our house” I thought to myself. I noticed how very little there is to do in this town, but at least it has a nice view. We continued to walk further away from the school in silence until I heard a mumble. “What was that?” I ask kindly trying not to sound rude. “Oh um, I was just saying that um, I didn’t understand why you asked me to show you around..” she stuttered and trailed off at the end with confusion written on her face. “Well you seemed nice and kind and that’s better than going around myself not knowing anything about this town..plus I did catch you staring at me earlier, so I took my shot.” I looked at her with a smirk and saw she was blushing a bit from being caught red handed. “I was not staring at you I was admiring the nice weather outside” she tried to cover her blush, but couldn’t as she got even more red in the face. “Right, so do you always drool a little bit while admiring the weather?” I asked her switching my position and started walking backwards so I could see her better. “WHAT! I..I..I was not drooling.” She exclaimed while looking a bit nervous and stuttering. “Relax Emily, I’m just messing around. Although you were drooling a small bit” I winked at her before walking forward again.
We walked a bit longer in silence I figured I would let her cool down from me embarrassing her earlier and we came to an abrupt stop. I looked at her confused “why’d we stop?” I asked. “Oh, I figured we could turn around and go the other direction from our house, it has more things to do. I don’t know why I took you this way.” She said quickly looking around like someone was going to come out and grab her. “Okay, we can turn around. I saw the lake we can go to the cafe to pick up something to drink and sit down for a bit before continuing our walk around if you’d like.” I replied to her. She looked at me with happiness in her eyes for the first time since I’ve seen her. “Really? Are you sure?” She asked quickly “Yeah, I don’t mind. We have been walking for a bit. It’ll be nice to stop and sit down for a little.” I responded to her. She had the biggest smile on her face that could light up any dark room.
We walked back towards the lake and cafe. Ordered our drinks and paid before heading to the bench to look out towards the quiet lake. We sat in silence for a bit before she spoke up. “Thank you for walking with me. I know I’m just showing you around, but I really do appreciate you asking in the first place” she said quietly. “It’s no problem. I um noticed you yesterday sitting here by yourself, you looked persevered and it was starting to get lake. I didn’t want to spook you by just talking out of the blue. You looked pretty in thought.” I told her truthfully. “I..I was here yesterday?” She asked. “Yeah, you were by the tree down a ways. I didn’t want to bother you.” I said with a confused tone. I could have sworn it was her. She has the same hair and build as the girl I saw yesterday. “Oh..” she trailed off. I noticed the bump on her forehead and got curious. “Hey, I’m not trying to sound mean or butt in by any means, but how did you get that spilt on your head?” “I don’t know honestly. I don’t really remember much of anything that happened yesterday if I’m being truthful. I woke up with my window open, and figured I must’ve forgotten to close it and hit my head.” She looked lost trying to say that, and I knew she was lying to an extent, but I didn’t want to push further. “The view is nice. You can get lost for hours just sitting here.” She continued with a little hope in her voice. Yup, that’s my cue to not push more out of her. I wish I could get her to open up a little bit. I know we just met, but something just feels right when we talk. I stared at her from the side while she continued to be lost in thought looking over the water. “I come here often to get away from life.” She said suddenly startling me from my thoughts. “What do you mean get away from life?” I asked genuinely curious what she meant. “I don’t have very many friends at all. I mean I have my best friend Amelia, but we don’t hangout much outside of school. I’m not aloud to have people come over and I would go over to her house, but I have my job after school, so I don’t have much of an option to do anything.” She quietly mumbled probably hoping I wouldn’t hear her fully. Now I’m wondering if she gets bullied and that’s why she doesn’t have many friends. Bruises say a lot even when you don’t want them to.
