Nickolas POV
We just moved to this small town Timber-View in Ohio and I figured I’d take a break from unpacking everything. I told my mom I was headed out to take a look around town and that I’ll be back later before heading out. As I walked out of our new home I looked to the right and saw a beautiful 2 story house, all the lights were on which I thought was weird, but people are who they are I guess. I decided to head down the road towards the right and see what is going on in this small town.
As I got to town, I saw a small cafe near this magnificent lake that looked out into the horizon and decided to order a medium latte to keep myself a little warm since it’s the middle of September and it gets chillier as the sun goes down. Once I got my latte I set out to a bench to watch the lake with the geese strolling about and watch the sunset when it was time.
I sat here for about 20 minutes staring at the geese. I started to look around and noticed a girl sitting by herself. I watched her as she just sat there twiddling with the grass looking out into the sunset. She seemed so lonely. I didn’t want to bother her, she seemed like she just wanted to be alone, but I noticed she had bruises on her arms and legs. I started to get intrigued with the way she looked as I was watching her. Her hair was a nice silky light brunette that went down to her mid back. She was wearing a short sleeve t shirt and some shorts with a pair of beat up shoes. She was beautiful to look at. I wanted to get to know her.
The sun was about to set and I didn’t want to get caught, but as I started to step back I broke a twig. I was scared she’d see me so I hid behind a bush real fast. As she looked around I thought I could sense fear coming from her before she darted off. Once I noticed she was out of ear shot I collected myself and went back to the bench I was sitting on before. I grabbed my jacket and shrugged it on before heading back. I would’ve stayed out longer and walked around a bit if the sun wasn’t down already. I didn’t want my parents to worry about me since we are new here in town. They are a bit over protective of me and that’s understandable with what happened to my mom’s sister when they were younger.
As I headed back the way I came I noticed that it is a decent walk from the area I was in back to my house. I took out my phone and texted my mother that I was on my way back home and I should arrive in the next 5 minutes. Once I got to the front porch I noticed the house next to ours had lights being turned off throughout the bottom level. “At least someone has some sense to turn lights off as it’s close to 10 at night” I thought to myself. I opened the front door to be greeted with a quiet house. I walked to my parents room and knocked to let them know I was home and was going to finish unpacking my room.
Our house isn’t a 2 story house like the one next to ours, but it was a decent sized for 3 of us living here. The living room was a good size more of a cozy space with a sectional couch on one wall and the tv hanging on the other wall above a fireplace. The kitchen was a good size for cooking and space for prep. The sink was a 2 basin with a spout that can be switched from normal mode to a spray mode that can unhook and spray off any dirty dishes. It had a bunch of cabinet space and an island in the middle. My room was on the opposite side of the house from my parent’s bedroom. I walked through the kitchen to get to my room and noticed through my window that the house next door had a small window close to my room. I saw the window light up suddenly. I ignored it since I couldn’t see through it with the shades being drawn. I continued to unpack my room since it was the last thing to do from the move.
I started with my putting my bed together and unpacking the comforter and sheets. Next was moving my dresser to the other side of the room and putting it in the walk in closet so I could have more space. I unpacked all of my clothes and hung up what needed to be hung up and folded what needed to be in my dresser. After that I put my desk on the opposite side of the window since my bed was on the other side of it. I hung up my tv shortly after. As I turned around to head back to my bed to take a breather I noticed the light was no longer on in the house across from our house. I figured since it is already midnight I should probably get ready for bed and unpack everything else tomorrow morning after breakfast. I went to the bathroom across the hall, took a shower, washed my face, and brushed my teeth. I went back into my bedroom and noticed that the light across the way was back on. I was going to ignore it, but something caught my eye. As the window shades were being drawn up I noticed it was the same girl that I saw at the lake next to the tree twiddling the grass. Since it was midnight I didn’t think I should startle her. I figured I could try my luck in the morning to talk to her. I closed my curtains and laid down to go to sleep thinking about the girl across the way.
