Emily’s POV
I woke up from a horrible nightmare. I checked my phone to see what time it was, it was almost 1. Everything seemed to be super hot I needed some air. I walked over to the little window that was in my room and pulled the shades up. I noticed that the new family across the way had a son. He looked like he was getting ready to go to bed. I didn’t want him to think I was some creep looking through his window, so I quickly averted my eyes and pulled my window up a bit to let the cool night air in. It was the weekend at least, so I didn’t have to be up for school in the morning. I stayed up for a bit scrolling through social media trying to be as quiet as I can, so I don’t wake anyone up. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and I hide my phone under my pillow. Hopefully they are just going to the pantry to get a snack and they’ll go back upstairs. Much to my luck my brother busts through my door startling me, so I stood up. “Why the f**k are you even here?” David said coming closer to me. I stared at him not knowing what to say because of how scared I was. “I had a night..” before I could finish David pushed me into my nightstand causing a searing pain to shoot straight up my left side. He grabbed my shirt and yanked me up so I would be close to his face. “I asked you a question b***h!” He exclaimed. Before I could even get another word in he punched me in the face causing my nose to bleed and continued to punch me. The last thing I see is getting my head smashed into the corner of my dresser.
I woke up the next morning freezing cold on the floor in front of my dresser with a massive headache. I noticed my window was open. “Why is my window open and why am I on the ground?” I question myself not understanding what had happened last night. I got up from the floor wincing in pain now realizing I have a huge bruise on the backside of my hip. “What happened last night?” I asked myself before sauntering over to the window to close it. After I closed the window I noticed I had blood on my shirt. I walked out of my room hoping not to run into anyone and made my way to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and noticed a huge bump with a split on my forehead. Along with my nose being bruised and bloody. I sighed while looking at myself and figured I needed a shower. I took my bloody clothes off and threw them in the corner so when I get out I can just throw them in my hamper. I grabbed a towel out of the bathroom closet and set it on the sink and hopped in the shower. I made sure to get all the blood off myself and lathered up my body and hair before rinsing everything off. I stepped out of the shower and washed my face and brushed my teeth. I went back to my room after picking up my clothes. I threw my clothes in the hamper and got new clothes out of the dresser. I got ready for the day and walked out to the kitchen realizing it’s 9 in the morning.
I made everyone breakfast and took a plate to my room to eat before starting on the dishes. Once the dishes were done I made way back to my room to clean up and read a book since all of my homework was finished. It seemed to be a nice day out, so I decided to open my window and let some air in. As I opened my window I noticed the house next door had a boy in the room across from mine. I was taken back by his gorgeous hair. It looked so nice and curly. “I wish I could run my hands through it” I thought and quickly stopped realizing that’ll never happen. He wouldn’t want anything to do with me just like everyone else, but I just couldn’t stop staring as he was moving things in his room around. I stood there in a trance until I heard a cough and blinked a couple times. I noticed I stared a bit longer than I should have considering he’s now at his window staring at me with a questionable look. “Can I help you?” He asked. I was taken back not knowing what to say. No one ever talks to me. I mean he’s probably creeped out by me just staring at him. “Uhh..no I’m sorry for staring. I got lost in my thoughts with how nice the weather is today.” I responded. That probably sounded like the worst lie ever, but hopefully he believed it I couldn’t deal with him thinking I’m a creep. “Well my name is Nickolas Jones and I’ll be starting at Western High next week” he said. “I’m Emily Haven and I currently go to Western High, I’m a junior there.” I responded hoping I don’t sound too ridiculous. “I know this is random, but would you mind showing me around town?” He asked taking me by surprise. “Yeah, I guess so if that’s what you would like. Do you want me to show you around today? I don’t have anything to do?” I asked back to him. While I was waiting for him to answer I was thinking about how nice it is to have someone to talk to besides my best friend. “I can go today as well. I just finished unpacking the rest of the boxes from the move. When would you like to go?” He said while leaning against his nightstand. “We can go now if you’d like, I just finished my chores.” I responded to him. “Sweet, I will meet you in the driveway of your house.” He replied. “Alright, I will be right out.” I told him right before closing my window.
I closed my blinds and grabbed a light jacket for the morning breeze. I grabbed my phone before leaving my room and started to walk towards the front door. I left a note on the side table letting my parents know I was going for a walk, not that they’ll care. As long as I clean everything and do as I’m told I can leave and come back without being noticed by anyone. I’m like the child they never wanted, but needed so I could be their maid. I never understood why they don’t just hire a maid. They make well more than enough money combined to hire one instead of treating me like one. I walk out the front door to be greeted with a pair of bright green eyes. Oh how dreamy I think to myself before walking off the porch.
