[ONE MONTH LATER]
Emily’s POV
It’s been a month since I’ve met Nickolas Jones. I can finally say I’ve had a nice month. No one has bothered me or bullied me recently. Nick comes over a lot to hang out with me. He even helps me out with dinner for the family. My bruises are slowly healing as well. I don’t have to wear as much coverup on my face anymore. I still put on a little mascara here and there, but not as much coverup.
Nick and I have become close friends within this past month. He even comes to my work sometimes to eat with his family. The other servers say that he’s now my regular and they won’t take him as a table even if it’s their turn in rotation which I think is nice. We’ve even gone on a couple dates together on the weekends. I guess I shouldn’t call them dates since we’re just friends, but eventually I’d like to try and be something more.
It’s now Saturday and I’ve done everything I can for right now. It’s already past lunch time and no one is home. They said they wouldn’t be back until later tonight which is fine by me. I’d like to have a day to relax for once. It gives me time to look for a car. I’m only 2,000 dollars short of what I need. I should be able to save that up within the next month if I keep saving as much as possible. So far I have 5,000 saved up in just tips and about 3,000 saved up in my bank account. I know I can make at least the 2,000 between my tips and paychecks. I still set aside a little money for going out occasionally or if I need stuff. Nick said he’d help me find a car if I haven’t found one by next month.
As I was relaxing watching some Netflix on my bed, I heard my window being lifted up. I looked over to see Nick climbing through it. “I saw everyone leaving earlier and wasn’t sure when they’d be back.” He said halfway sticking out the window. “Oh, they’re got until late tonight. They didn’t give me a time.” I laughed while helping him the rest of the way through.
He brought his laptop with him and decided to find a movie to watch with me on my bed. As he was searching for a movie I couldn’t help but stare at him in adoration. He’s the kindest person I’ve ever met and I couldn’t believe he wanted to be friends with me. He’s helped me open up so much. He knows a lot about my favorite things even before I could tell what I found out I liked he just noticed what I did the most and asked if I liked doing those things. For instance like drawing and writing I didn’t know how often I did those hobbies until he pointed it out and showed him everything I’ve drawn. “What are you smiling about?” I was taken out of my thoughts by his question. “What do you mean?” I asked. “You’re looking at me smiling like a goof. If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were crushing on me.” I laughed and nudged his shoulder a little. “I do not! I was just thinking how nice it is to have you as my friend.” “Uh huh, that’s why your voice got a little pitch when you said no?” He said smirking at me. I could feel my face heat up a little and decided to ignore his statement. We found a movie to watch and sat close to each other so the laptop could stay steady on the middle of our legs.
I guess I had fallen asleep. I woke up and Nick was no longer in my room and his laptop was gone. I looked at my phone and noticed that it was almost 10 at night. I hadn’t realized I slept so long. I also had a message from Nick saying he thought he heard someone come home and didn’t want me to get in trouble, so he snuck back through my window to go home.
After I put my phone away I headed out of my room and went to the bathroom to get ready for bed. It was silent in the house which is no surprise, but all the lights were still off. “I guess they’re still out” I silently spoke before turning on my heel and went to my bedroom again. I was going to get back on my phone, but didn’t want to risk getting caught so I just laid in bed and let sleep take over.
At about 1am I heard a bunch of banging noises coming from the living room. I remembered that I checked the front door to make sure it was locked before going back to bed. It had to have been my brother or sister coming home. I was sure my parents were already home when I went out the first time. They’re never out past 9 since they have work in the morning.
I walked out of my bedroom door silently not to try and spook anyone and tiptoed my way through the kitchen. I flipped on the kitchen light above the sink and walked towards the living room. I saw a bunch of things knocked over, but I didn’t see anyone around. I picked everything up and placed it where they should be and roamed around the rest of the house.
To my surprise I didn’t see anyone and the door was still locked when I checked on my way back to my room. Before I could turn off the light above the sink I heard more scattering noises happening around the house and stopped to listen more carefully. It stopped for a minute, but continued on right after. I walked back into the living room and still saw no sign of life and wandered my way to the hall where the bathroom and closet are located. Still nothing. I pondered on the thought of going up the stairs to make sure no one was trying to rob us, but if I went upstairs and someone was actually home then I’d be in trouble for going up there in the first place.
Eventually I came to a decision to check upstairs just to make sure I wasn’t going crazy hearing things. I walked carefully to the steps and avoided turning on the light to not cause a distraction. I slowly went up step by step holding onto the railing for dear life praying nothing was out of the ordinary.
Finally I made it upstairs where my siblings and partners bedrooms were. I stalked my way through the hall stopping at my sister’s room first seeing that her door was open. No one was in there and I walked back out. She’s probably at a friend’s house for the night, I thought to myself. Next up was my parent’s room. I slowly opened their door being careful not to wake them up if they were in there. They were both sound asleep, so I closed the door quietly and went to my brother’s room. His door was slightly open. I pushed it a little bit to try and get a glimpse in and saw no one.
I stayed in the hallway for a bit wondering what the noise could have been. I decided to ignore it and closed his door. I turned around and was hit with a brick build. Slowly I looked up to a fuming brother staring back.
