Third Person POV
Nick took them home and as they were getting out of the car Emily’s mom was sitting outside on the porch. “Emily honey..can you come here for a minute. I want to talk to you.” Cindy said. Emily didn’t know how to react and neither did Nick. He didn’t want to leave her side knowing how her family is he was worried for what might happen. Emily on the other hand panicked and just stayed in her place. Nick noticed and slowly walked over to her and put his hand on the small of her back and whispered in her ear. “I’m right here, we can go together if you’d like.” She nodded slowly and they walked over to her mother.
Once they were both on the porch Emily spoke out. “What can I do for you?” She asked quietly. “I went into your room today and saw that everything was gone. I went in after I got home from work. No one else was home. I just want to know if you’re okay.” Cindy stated. Emily didn’t know how to react. She’s never seen this side of her mom before. She was stunned and had a confused look on her face. Cindy noticed and continued. “I know you don’t have anything going on at the school after school is out. I know you have a job and have had one for a while. I saw you walking there one day and followed you there. I’m not mad. I’m really proud of you actually. I also have known that your brother hits you constantly and that you cover it up with makeup when they are bad. I just want you to know that deep down I love you and I’m sorry for everything that I have let happen and have ever said to you.” Emily didn’t speak for a while. Nick was standing by her side still, now holding her hand. “You’re sorry?! You have let this happen continuously. You even played a part in everything as well! How can I trust that you love me?! How can I trust that you aren’t putting on a fake face now because Nick is standing next to me? Huh?, why is it all of a sudden different now?!” At this point Emily is fuming with anger and her mother understands and just sits there quietly with tears streaming down her face. “I know what I have done. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I want to tell you why everything has been happening to you.” Cindy said softly. “Okay, go on. Please shine some light on this subject, so I myself can move on and figure out why I am the most hated person in our family even though I do everything for everyone.” Emily responded. “Your father thinks you aren’t his. He believe whole heartedly that I had an affair when we found out I was pregnant. I’ve wanted to leave him for so long, but I can’t. He will take everything from me and when I tried to leave with you he threatened me and I haven’t been able to do anything since.” Cindy has told her everything. “But why did you act that way towards me all this time?” Emily asked. “I needed to put on a show so I wouldn’t get hurt, but I should’ve helped you as well when you needed me most.” She said sadly. “Well I’m not coming back home so you can forget about that.” Emily spat. “I know you aren’t and I didn’t expect you to, but I need to ask you a favor.” Cindy said standing up from the porch swing. “And what is that?” Emily asked. “I need you to tell me what time you get up to make breakfast and dinner” Cindy said coming closer to her daughter who is looking at her with rage.
After they talked about everything that was needed to keep Emily’s placement quiet she and Nick went back to his house. “Do you think she’ll keep you quiet from everyone?” Nick asked her. “I don’t know. She’s never done anything like this before. We will just have to wait and see.” Emily responded. As they got into the house Nick pulled her close and kissed her cheek. “What was that for?” Emily asked giggling like a schoolgirl. “I’m just happy and I like you. You stood up to someone in your family instead of having them walk all over you like you usually do. It was an amazing sight to see that’s all.” Nick said smiling ear to ear.
Nick went to his room and sighed wishing he could just tell her that he wants to be with her already. He’s happy that she let him kiss her cheek though. It’s progress in his mind. Emily on the other hand just thought it was a friendly gesture. She knows no one can like a girl like her. He’s just a really close friend.
The following day Cindy got up at 4:30am to make everyone breakfast and dinner, cleaning up everything after she was done. Doing the dishes and wiping the counters just like Emily did when she was there. She went back upstairs and went to sleep until her usual time.
Anastasia came downstairs after getting ready for school and saw that breakfast was on the hot plates today and got happy that she didn’t need to buy food again today. She ate her breakfast and went to school. She saw Emily holding hands with Nick while walking into the school. “How can you hold hands with her when I’m right here.” Anastasia said while caressing his arm. “Because unlike you she doesn’t flirt with every guy she sees and doesn’t need to make a point that she’s here and available like you.” Nick said with pure confidence. “What the f**k! I don’t do that!” She squealed out angry. “You just did. Did you not?” He stated p*****g her off even more. She didn’t respond and walked away.
As the day went on everything went smoothly. No one bothered Emily or Nick. Emily went to work as usual and the night wasn’t nearly as busy as the night before. She texted Nick letting him know she will be off early tonight since the dining room is dead. After her message went through she heard the door chime letting them know a customer was coming in. “Hey! You never texted me” Jason said. “Yeah, I was busy when I got home. I also had homework to do.” Emily responded. “That’s cool. Do you mind if I get your number? Just in case I need it sometime in the future.” Jason asked with hope in his eyes. “I guess so, but on one condition.” She said. “What’s the condition? I will do anything.” He said happily. “You can’t tell my brother or my family. They don’t know I have a phone I bought it so people from work could message me if they needed to.” She told him the truth. “Okay, deal.” She gave him her phone number and took him to a table to get his order in the system before she started closing down.
Nick picked her up after her shift and they both went home. Everything is falling into place for Emily and she could not be any happier than she is at this moment in life.
