Third Person POV The house was silent on Sunday. No breakfast was made. Neither was lunch or dinner. David must have done a number on Emily if she hasn’t made breakfast this Monday morning. Anastasia goes downstairs after getting ready for school and sees no breakfast is on the hot plates like there usually is. She’s frustrated and goes straight to Emily’s door. She turns the knob only to find out that it’s locked. “B***h, must be already gone. Now I have to stop at the cafe before school to get something to eat.” Anastasia mumbles to herself. She leaves a note on the table saying no breakfast or dinner is made for today. They have to fend for themselves now. Anastasia gets to the school parking lot and rushes inside with her breakfast in hand trying not to be late for her first class. She spent way too long at the cafe flirting with the worker trying to get her food for free. Luck seemed to not be in her side. She had to pay for everything she ordered like a normal person. “I don’t understand why that worker wouldn’t give me anything for free. I flirted with him for so long and he wasn’t even attractive. Stupid boy.” She says while getting to her locker. After first period is over with Anastasia goes to her locker to get her books for second hour only to realize she bumps into Nick and Emily while she wasn’t paying attention to where she was going. “Watch where you’re going!” She spits at them. “Excuse me, you’re the one not paying attention and ran into us.” Nick says with a dead straight face. Anastasia rolls her eyes and huffs. “Why wasn’t breakfast ready? I had to go to the cafe almost running late because of you.” She says surely to Emily. “She’s not your slave for one and for two you are more than capable of making your own breakfast considering you are older than she is.” Nick spits back towards her. “This isn’t any of your business stay out of it.” She starts to cause a scene and grabs Emily by her arm digging her nails into her skin. “You are going to be in so much trouble when you get home. You know that right? I guess David didn’t teach you much of a lesson now did he?” Nick pushes Anastasia’s hand away from Emily. “You can go now and I’ll be sure she doesn’t have to deal with you or your family anymore.” She stares stunned by his action and words towards her. No one has ever laid a hand on her before. What is he planning? He can’t save her. No one can. She snickers to herself once she’s turned around and walks away. Emily’s mom and dad are downstairs and found Anastasia’s note on the table. They don’t mind not having breakfast. They aren’t thrilled about it, but they aren’t mad. They can always go and pick something up before heading to work. “You know we are pushing away our daughter by always having her do everything.” Cindy, Emily’s mom says to Paul, Emily’s father. “I don’t care, I never wanted her to begin with and you know that. You slept around and got pregnant. This is your fault.” Paul responds to Cindy. Little does he know she never slept around she only flirted to get his attention back on her. He got drunk one night and slept with her and ended up pregnant. She only puts up a face and can’t leave. She knows he will take everything from her even the company they work at. She’s tried leaving before and he threatened he would punish her if she ever tried again. She hasn’t tried since. David walks downstairs and stops halfway hearing his parents conversation. He knew his mother was a w***e and always has been. He doesn’t understand why she wants anything to do with Emily. She’s nothing and worthless to them. He’s stops short before fully entering the kitchen. “Where’s breakfast?” He asks. Paul holds up Anastasia’s letter and he’s furious. Now he has to spend money on breakfast too. Hasn’t he taught her more than enough times. David thinks to himself before rolling his eyes and leaving slamming the front door behind him. Cindy goes back to her bedroom and gets ready for work thinking about Emily. “My poor child, I’m sorry for how I’m treating you. I just can’t let anyone see that I care. I don’t want to get punished for caring about you.” She mumbles to herself before getting clothes out of her walk in closet. She knows Emily has a job. She caught her walking home from school one day and followed her to the little diner there in town. She hasn’t said anything to anyone. She doesn’t mind at least she knows that she’s taking care of herself. David gets to the mall frustrated as he texts his friends in a group chat telling them to meet him at the mall and he’ll pay for what they want. Jason, Simon, and Jeremy show up 10 minutes later. “You guys hungry?” David asks. “Hell yeah man I’m always starving!” Simon responds enthusiastically. “Dude, it’s 9 in the morning why didn’t you eat already? Didn’t princess Emily make breakfast for you like always?” Jeremy asks. “No, the b***h didn’t make anything at all for the last 2 days. S**t is ridiculous.” David answers annoyed. “She’s not your maid, she’s your sister..why does she always need to have food ready for you guys at all times?” Jason chimes in. “That’s all she’s good for. Without that she’s nothing and worthless in this world.” David says. “Enough of this. Let’s go get food and shop around.” He continues. They all stop talking and go to the plaza where all the food chains are before going around the mall to shop. Emily and Nick are finally done with school and head back for the car. “You work today don’t you?” Nicks asks while throwing his bag in the backseat. “Yeah, I work all throughout the weekdays. I’ll be off at 9.” Emily responds while getting the front seat and buckling herself in. “How close are you to getting your car?” He asks. “I’m about 2 grand away from my goal. I still haven’t found a car yet. I should be able to make my goal by the end of next month.” She says. “That’s awesome! I’m proud of you. As for the car you know we can shop around a dealership or Craigslist. I can help you pick one out if you still haven’t found one by then like we agreed.” He told her. “Thank you, and of course! I can’t just pick out any car. I need my best friend with me.” She giggles while finishing the sentence. Nick starts the car and drives to his house. He hasn’t realized he put his hand on Emily’s thigh halfway through the drive until Emily puts her hand over his. “Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to do that.” He says frantically pulling his hand away. “It’s okay. I don’t mind. It was a nice feeling honestly.” She says blushing. The rest of the car ride was quiet and they reached home. She goes inside to change into her work clothes and before she can leave Nick tells her he will drive her and pick her up.
