Chapter 6:

Emily’s POV I cleaned and wiped everything down before nick came over. After cleaning the entire house as best as I could to my mother’s standards I went to my room and cleaned that as well. I knew we wouldn’t really be out in the house much due to everyone possibly being around and wanted to be prepared to just hangout in my room. As I came to an end of cleaning, I heard a knock at the front door. I put away the cleaning supplies and straightened my clothes and went to the front door. I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly before opening the door to be met with Nick on the other side. “Hey!” Nick exclaimed seeming happy to be here. “Hello, come inside.” I responded. He came inside and I closed the door behind him. “So this is my house, we have the entry way here.” He took off his shoes and we continued our way through the small hall. “Over here is our living room and up those stairs are my parents, brothers and sister’s bedrooms with a bathroom in each room.” I told him as we walked through the house. “On this side left side we have the kitchen, which has a basement door at the end and my bedroom door is on the other wall close to the basement door, but diagonal from it as you can see.” I continued as we walked past the kitchen a tiny bit down the hall. “Right here we have the hall closet that’s basically a walk in closet and we store a lot of our winter coats and stuff like that and next to it we have the bathroom that’s a decent size but nothing extraordinary considering it’s a bathroom.” I giggled a little while ending the tour of our house. We walked back to the kitchen making our way to my room, but got stopped by my mother calling me while coming down the stairs. “Emily sweetie! I heard you walking around. Come introduce me to your friend” my mother called me sweetie? That’s new, must be one of her acts she’s putting on for Nick, so she doesn’t sound like a bad parent. “Yeah sure mom, we will be right there.” I said as we were walking back to the living room. I tensed up as we were slowly getting closer hoping for the best. I felt a hand on my back as we approached reminding me that I’m not alone. We made it to the living seeing my mom on the couch. “Mom, this is Nick. He’s the boy next door. They just moved in yesterday.” I said as we were in front of her. “Oh, that’s nice! How are you doing getting around town? If you would like company I’m sure Anastasia Emily’s sister can show you around.” I rolled my eyes internally at her statement. “Oh that’s okay Mrs. Haven, I’ve already walked around and got myself accustomed to everything last night.” Nick had said. I was taken back a little bit noticing he didn’t mention that I was the one who showed him around this morning. I guessed he sensed it, because I felt his hand that was on my back slightly pat before being removed. It was awkward silence for a solid minute. “Well we are going to go back to my room for a bit.” I broke the silence with my statement. We headed back to through the kitchen and made it to my room. I closed the door behind us and motioned him to sit on my bed while I sauntered over to the window to open it so we could have some fresh air. “Why is your room the only room on the first level?” Nick questioned. I went to respond before he quickly added “I also assume the rooms upstairs are much bigger considering they all have bathrooms connected to them. Please don’t make up a lie to make me feel better, what’s going on?” I pondered at his questions he was throwing out suddenly before answering him. “I honestly don’t know why my room is on the first floor.” I stared blankly at him. “I also noticed that you have bruises on your arms and legs and there’s a fresh bruise on your nose that I see you tried covering up. I’m not trying to pry, but I’m worried for you.” He said quietly. I sighed knowing I won’t be able to get out of hiding anything. “I get bullied. I’m not welcome anywhere which is why I go to the lake frequently. Since you saw me there yesterday I technically wasn’t suppose to go today, but since I was “just walking around” according to my note I left this morning before leaving. I can still go tomorrow before the new week starts and I go to work.” I waited before continuing contemplating on telling the rest of what I can remember from the past couple years. “All the bruises you see on me are from my family and classmates. They hurt me for no reason and I just take it, because I can’t do anything about it. As for the bump on my head and bruise on my nose I’m not sure what happened, but as you noticed that weren’t there yesterday. This morning I woke up on the floor in front of my dresser and my window was still open. I can’t remember what happened, but if I’m not wrong it probably had to do with one of my siblings coming down after dinner.” I pulled up my shirt slightly to show him the bruise on the back side of my hip. “This is another one I found. I would have thought it was an old one, but if it wasn’t for the pain I had this morning it couldn’t be anymore clear that it was fresh as well.” He sat silently on my bed next to me looking hurt. I shouldn’t have said anything he probably doesn’t want to be around me anymore. After a few moments passed I decided to look away and stare at the wall preparing for the worst. Suddenly I felt a hand on my hand. I looked over to Nick as noticed he had sorrow hidden in his eyes. Great I didn’t want him to pity me now. It’s nothing new that happens. “Emily, I am so sorry for everything that has happened to you. I just want to let you know that I’m here for you. Anytime and any place. Night or day. I will be here for you if you need me.” He told me quietly. “Can I ask you one more question?” He asked. I nodded for him to continue. “What are the chores you have to do?” I waited before exhaling my breath that I hadn’t realized I was holding in. “My chores are everything. Cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc. anything you can think of those are my chores.” I replied. “So when you told me you had to come home earlier to make lunch and I asked thinking you were done with chores. You were meaning you were done with the morning chores, right?” I nodded again now knowing he will know everything. I pray he doesn’t say anything to anyone or doesn’t add to the situation. I don’t think I can handle another person picking on me thinking they were my friend all along. Suddenly it was silent again.
