Kira cursed as her bag slipped off her arm and banged against her shin while she was fumbling with her keys.
She was a sweaty mess, her hair sticking to her face from her constant messy crying. She even had to remove her contacts at one point before her excessive crying caused her complications and now she had lost one eye of her favorite pair.
Add that to the fact that she had stubbed her toe as soon as she finally got in and took off her shoes, she was very irritated at that moment.
She just threw her bag into the closet, not caring where it went. It was alright she wouldn't be needing it for the next eight months or so.
Just great! Kira sprawled out on the ground, it was just early spring and yet somehow she had managed to get herself an early vacation, one that included Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and then some.
She looked around the pristine and homely house with warm inviting decor that she had carefully chosen herself and Kira felt her heart sink.
She had always hated being alone, being so closeted as a child while growing up, and that's why she was always at the clinic with the other staff and patients, who didn't complain about the time she spent around them.
She moved away from the city where she was nothing but the trophy child of parents who were never around to Oakwood, a little town at the edge of the city of Newwall.
Now, the only home she had ever known since she left the city as a dewy-eyed intern was gone too. Well, for about eight months, but it was still devastating all the same.
Kira rolled over to her side and curled into a ball. She was an Omega but no one knew and she preferred to keep it that way. All that was in the past behind her as well as her old life, but she couldn't help her nature.
With the contacts off, it showed that her eyes were a lighter, paler green, as was typical of all Omegas, and she was special because Alphas and Omegas were pretty rare to come by, call it natural selection.
The more stable and sturdy Betas were born more often than the others, so in the modern Werewolf community, at least in Newwall City, Betas outnumbered the others two to three.
Packs were almost non-existent now as Werewolves needed to blend in. Oakwood was the only town around the city that had the highest population of Werewolves, the huge forest that gave the town its name also contributed to that fact.
The scent depressants she took at the start of the day were already wearing off because she forgot to put on a fresh spray and her sweet scent of honeydew and vanilla filled the room, it quickly turned sour with her mood though.
After wallowing in her own unhappiness for a while, Kira decided that she needed to get up to make herself presentable for her new in-house guest.
She peeked at the files she had haphazardly thrown onto her glass center table and wondered what it would be like babysitting a Werewolf, scratch that, an actual wolf.
She picked up the file and leafed through it quickly to get the essentials. According to their calculations, Jael was actually pretty grown up and they set his age range from 20 - 23.
Kira was pretty grown up too, at 24 years old, maybe that might help in bonding. They guessed he was a Beta wolf, plus the file didn't forget to mention the possibility that it might just be an oversized wolf.
That was highly unlikely though, actual wolves were violent animals, they would have known straight off the bat if they were just dealing with a wild animal.
Kira shut the file again and went to her bedroom, the cottage was really cozy with two bedrooms that had attached bathrooms, a living room, a tiny dining room, and a big kitchen which Kira didn't fail to take advantage of being an avid cook.
She might be petite, coming up at 5 feet 2 inches with a delicate, effeminate build, but she learned to carry herself in a way that even these very obvious Omega traits were overlooked.
Quickly she undressed, tossing her scrubs in the hamper, she had on comfortable silk shorts but that soon went flying --- living alone meant she didn't have to care about modesty.
Smoothening down her dark blonde hair which went down to her mid back, she walked into the bathroom and although she eyed the tub hungrily, she decided that she would have to make do with a quick steamy shower. She had endless days and nights to soak in the tub anyway.
God. She sounded depressed...
She barely got out of the shower in time to throw on an old pastel sweater and sweatpants before the doorbell rang.
Squealing, she hurried to the door and cursed when she realized that her telltale Omega scent and pale eyes were on full display. Well, there was no time now, she thought, as she flung open the door.
A cold wind immediately blew against her, wafting her intoxicating scent back into the house, and the fact that Mina was already carefully extracting Jael from the back of her pickup truck meant that it would be hard for her scent to be picked up. She sighed in relief, grateful at the way things had worked out.
"Hey! Where are you taking him?" Kira asked, almost panicking as the other health worker started to take the extremely docile and humongous wolf to the back of the cottage - did she forget to mention the fact that it was huge?
Mina paused, looking really flustered. "I um, I thought you would want to keep him in your shed?" She muttered in confusion.
Kira gaped, something akin to horror on her face. "W-Why would I want to do that?" She exclaimed.
She started to take a step outside but soon realized that she had forgotten to grab appropriate footwear, so she was stuck standing in front of her open door instead of going over to get her patient like she really wanted to.
