The Betrayal

Kayla POV

I was reviewing the list of potential allies and enemies with Smith.

"Kayla, I have to say that your understanding of the entire kingdom and the entire world surprised me." Smith's praise brought to mind the years I spent arguing with Natalie about my desire to stop studying and her insistence that I must continue because I would soon become queen.

I regret being so grumpy with Natalie about studying because the knowledge is paying off, and I miss her so much.

"Our work is done! We can go to dinner." I told him with a smile.

"Jacob just sent me a mind link, and they're also on their way back from the fae queen's castle. They want to join us." Beta enthusiastically informs me. He must be aware of how lonely I am and how easily my thoughts wander towards Leon and Lucas.

"We'll be waiting for them here. In the meantime, I'll pack up all the papers." I told him and began organizing the papers in the folders.

Jacob and Melanie walk into Lucas' office a few minutes later, smiling. They are an odd couple, but they make a good one, though I believe Jacob still needs to mature.

"How did it go?" I asked immediately. It´s important to have Fae's support.

"As one might expect. They were grateful for the information and agreed to assist us", he informed, and Jacob high-fived Smith.

The office phone rings and Smith answers it right away.

"She's here; I'll put her on." I heard Smith answer the call and saw him hand me the phone.

"Lucas?" I request confirmation that it is indeed him. I'm feeling anxious.

"Kayla, I've been dying to hear your voice..." On the other hand, he sighs. However, I detect some agitation.

"Is everything all right?" My anxiety drives me to seek answers. "Is everything all right?" My nervousness drives me to seek answers.

"In general. Kayla, I need you to pay close attention to what I'm saying.

" OK." My stomach rebels and feelings of fear and uncertainty take hold.

"Leon's presence was felt by Thea." Lucas' words caused me to bring my free hand to my mouth. I have to sit at the desk, ignoring the folders underneath.

"If she felt him, is that because he is alive, right?" This appears to be the only explanation, but I'm afraid to set expectations too high.

"It is, indeed. But he was seriously injured. Some of the wounds were made with silver, and his wolf is not healing him quickly enough. He'll need a few hours, even with medical assistance." My heart started to race.

"He'll be fine." Lucas sighs deeply.

"Where was he? Who hurts him? Jaime?" I want Lucas to tell me everything because I need to know more.

"No, it was Alpha Vincent, but the story doesn't appear to be that straightforward. Kayla, I think you should come here; Leon and Alice both need you." His tone is exhausted, and I know he'll need me too, even if he doesn't say so.

"Ok. Melanie and Jacob have arrived; can they accompany me?" I inquired anxiously.

"Sure. Smith must remain there." Lucas tells me. The pack cannot afford to be without any of its most powerful members.

"Kayla, Jaime´s men are making stops and searching for werewolf cars. You must either ask Melanie for assistance or mask yourself." I am moved by Lucas' concern.

"You can rest assured, I'll be careful," I reassured him.

"I'm missing you. I'll see you in a couple of hours." He sighs as he says goodbye. I can tell he's depressed and needs to rest.

"That's very kind of you. Take care of yourself; you appear to be exhausted." I warned him before ending the call.

I informed those in attendance. We went to pack our belongings and prepare to embark on our journey.

Melanie cast a spell to alter my appearance. The journey seemed endless; we were stopped several times, but logically with Mia instead of Thea and with a completely different appearance from mine; no one knew who I was.

When we entered Alice's pack, we were met by a beta wolf who introduced himself as Mika. He said that Lucas had asked him to come and receive us. Melanie reversed the spell, no one in the pack would recognize me, since I was never officially introduced as the queen.

Mika drove us to the pack house, where Jacob parked outside, next to the car that I recognized as belonging to Lucas.

Jacob sent his brother a mind link, informing him that he had arrived.

Lucas arrives a short time later, greeting us. His hair is unkempt, and his clothing is rumpled. The sheets or pillows have left marks on his face. And I can't help but think he's adorable. But my excitement about seeing Leon again is so intense that these thoughts last only a few seconds.

"Please follow me," Lucas requested, and we started to follow him into the house. When we were in the corridor, I had to come to a halt to catch my breath.

Melanie gave me a worried look as she perceived that I was dizzy and not feeling well.

Jacob and Lucas straightened their backs; they, too, must have detected Alice's strong arousal scent.

"Kayla, we should probably avoid going in," Lucas murmurs, grabbing my wrist and turning my body so we're facing each other.

"Don´t worry, I'll go." in fear, he says.

I'm disgusted and weak because the smell of Alice has intensified in a matter of seconds.

You'll enter, and I'll be there with you, supporting you. Mia's voice is reassuring. I let out a sad laugh, knowing that smelling Leon and Alice's betrayal is what it takes for Mia to be good for me. How ironic.

I gathered my courage, turned the knob, and walked into the room.

Leon is naked and has a massive hard-on. He's grabbing Alice, who appears to be completely bucked up and on the verge of a climax based on her scent. She is dressed, but it lessens the pain I feel.

"What the hell?" I yelled at both of them because I couldn't help myself, and Mia growled angrily at Alice. I couldn´t stop her on time.

Alice looks at me in astonishment, and Leon steps in front of her, growling at me as if he was protecting his new mate from his real one. How bizarre can this be?

Lucas rushes to my side to protect me when he hears Leon growling. Jacob does the same. And Leon, seeing the challenge of the two alpha wolves next to me, shifts into Lucio.

Lucio is in front of me, roaring and prepared to attack. My Lucio, the one who protected me, the one who was so possessive, the one I love...

I can't think of anything. The agony is excruciating. My mate is not only betraying me, but he also acts as if he is ready to kill me. This shattered me into tiny little pieces, and I'm now beyond repair.

I'll handle this. Mia says it with a determined tone. She also shifts and looks at Alice in defiance. Lucas and Jacob turn as well. Like me, they can perceive that Leon is going to throw himself at me and Mia, to kill us.

"Stop, please!" Alice screamed at the top of her lungs, placing herself between Lucio and Mia. She kneels in front of us sobbing.

Mia, please get me out of here. I just need to leave. Please, take over for a while. I beg you. My mate, my friend, and my wolf. How could they do this to me?

Mia growls at Alice, who looks at her with tears streaming down her face. Mia turns her back and runs out of the room.

Aric follows, and I think the two of them deserve some time together in their wolf form. I know I can trust Mia and Aric.

I closed my mind, letting Mia take charge because I couldn't feel this pain anymore.
