Alice POV
What? I can't believe what I'm hearing.
Go back immediately, Alice, or I'll have to shift here. She demands, and I have to comply because I know she is stronger than me.
"Please halt the vehicle, Lucas. Despite not being the driver, Lucas was the one giving the orders, so I requested it of him." Anthony stopped; Lucas and Mika both exited the vehicle, allowing me to do the same.
"Do we have any visitors that I am unaware of in my pack, Mika?" I didn't find anything or anyone, but perhaps he is being concealed for his safety.
"No, no one!" My friend looked at me with lots of questions. But I can't waste time answering them right now. Thea is in despair, so I must first keep her under control.
Thea, I know that what you say must be accurate, but do you know his current location? I need her to tell me everything. If we go back, we can't lose time.
No. He came to me in waves. He appeared to be juggling his conscious and unconscious selves. He is hurt and unconscious. Could he be at the hospital?
Yes, but do you have any idea of the place? I don't get it. How is this possible?
Where I felt him closest and could slightly smell him was near the training camp. Perhaps he is at a hospital. This idea is comforting me.
If we go back, can you follow the smell or the pain? Can you? The only way is by trusting Thea's senses; I hope she is feeling well enough to help with this.
Sure. Let's go now, or I'll have to force my shift. She commands me with her powerful aura radiating through my veins.
Wait. Let me talk to them and see the best way to ensure everyone's safety. I need her to understand that we have other lives at stake. Lucas must know this. We will need his help.
Hurry up. She pleads.
"Thea sensed Leon's presence in my pack. We have to go back," and both men are taken aback by the news.
"There is no one in the pack, Alice. If there was, we would have sensed the presence." doubt is present in Mika's words. I can sense his distrust.
"How?" Lucas is lost in his thoughts.
Both nod as I say, "Probably my father is protecting him," but it's clear that Lucas doesn't really think this is the case.
"Let's go back. Make up an excuse for our return. We had better play it safe." Lucas looks at Mika and me, waiting for our responses. We nodded.
"Even though it hurts, Thea, calm down until we can locate him because we have no idea what might be waiting for us." Lucas talks to Thea now; I think it's the first time he has spoken to her.
"Yes, I will restrain myself. But if I have to defend Leon, I don't guarantee that I will." Thea exclaims with resolve, directly to Lucas.
The trip back to my pack seemed like an eternity, when in fact it was a few minutes. Anthony sped up as fast as he could, on Lucas' orders.
When we reached the border, we entered with ease. Mika had already informed the warriors on patrol. There were no incidents. The cars passed and we went directly to the pack´s plaza instead of going to the pack house. The Square is one of the most central places, and that's where Mika suggested we go.
"I hope your father doesn't find us," Lucas mutters with some concern. Right now we have several scenarios, and only one is good. All the others put us in danger. I try to push these thoughts out of my head.
Be focused, Thea. We must act quickly. Thea is whimpering in pain despite my pleas. Leon must be aware right now because she senses his suffering. I also feel pressure in my chest, but I can still handle it, perhaps because the pill hasn't completely worn off. Thea's suffering is worse; it makes my mind hurt.
She only exercises some control. My arms and legs have some fur, which I can feel. I have to let it happen, but with restrictions to prevent a complete transformation. In wolf form, the sense of smell is much more acute, but since we are in the middle of my pack, they can see us, it's better if I keep my human form.
My legs start to run in the direction of Thea points as I start to rely on her instincts. I can feel everyone running after us. Lucas and his warriors, Mika and Anthony.
We pass a few Omegas, but they don't seem to find it strange because they wave to me politely since they recognize me, and I do the same.
Thea takes us to the training camp, which at that moment has several elements in training, including Lancaster.
When he noticed us, Lancaster put an end to what he was doing and drew nearer.
He came over and asked, "Alice? What's wrong?" I tried to get Thea to calm down in time. But it was too late; I was powerless to stop Thea from following the traces of mint, lavender, and vanilla I could smell in the air.
I ignored Lancaster and moved in the direction of the scent. This time, I calmly took it all in. Thea is also more at ease, perhaps because she shares my intoxication with this smell.
We reached the dungeon door.
"You can't go in!" Lancaster yells warnings at me.
Lucas asks him, in a position of authority that Lancaster can't help but notice, "Why can't she come in?"
"Entering it is expressly forbidden. Alpha has prohibited, by law, all elements of the pack from coming near here." Lancaster explains in pure confusion, adjusting his body to her Beta demeanor.
"Technically, I didn't hear Alpha's command!" I shot out at him.
"And I'm not from this pack," Lucas informs Lancaster in a position of defiance.
"I don't understand. Explain!" looking at us, Lancaster says in bewilderment.
"Dad, King Leon is there in the dungeons." Mika decides to explain before this becomes a more complicated situation. He is trying to avoid a confrontation between his father and Lucas. Lucas, as Alpha, is already bigger; being a pureblood, he is even more powerful. But Lancaster is in his domain; one mind link, and we'd have all the warriors here, fighting against us.
I stared at Lucas, offering some assurance, "We have to be very quick before my father shows up."
"What? Impossible! There hasn't been anyone in that dungeon in days. The prisoners are moved to the nearby pack. Your father claims that he will update it." Lancaster is losing his patience, and I'm starting to be afraid of it.
Anthony rolled his eyes. How can you modernize a dungeon? What's the point?
"Lancaster, Leon is over there, and I'm going in. Are you going to stop me?" I am already out of patience for this conversation.
"Alice..." He starts to say it, but Mika puts her hand on his chest as if in a plea for him not to.
The warriors of Lucas make a barrier near the door so that no one can get through, besides me and Lucas.
The smell of dampness and dust is disgusting. I can smell notes of excrement, urine, and blood. I descend the stairs, and my heart almost bursts out of my chest.
We are almost there when I stop and scowl. No matter if it comes from the mate or the dungeons, the smell is too overpowering. As he moves in front of me to open the door, Lucas places his arm on my shoulder. We enter a sizable space with numerous cells that resemble a warehouse. As we move down the hallway and look at each one, I finally find Leon in the final one.
He is chained by his wrists, his bare feet rolling on the floor. He has only a pair of shorts on his body. I can tell he´s been tortured because of the revolting appearance of dried blood. His head is hanging down, and all I can see are his perfectly defined abs and his legs that look like they were shaped by the moon goddess herself.
His body is covered with dried blood and has wounds that are still healing, but what shocks me are the silver chains that bind his hands to the ceiling. This is a scene of full-blown torture. No human being should have been subjected to this. Tears streamed down my face in pure pain and horror.
"My mate. What have they done to my mate? Save him!" Amid her agony, Thea begs Lucas and me to help her.
"We need the keys, Alice, do you know where they are?" Lucas asks, standing in front of me and interrupting the vision I had of Leon and bringing me back to harsh reality.
"No. I've never been here before." I confess not knowing what to do.
Lucas starts to look around and sees an axe, which is stained with blood. He picks it up and approaches the chains holding Leon upright. Lucas takes a swing, and I hear the shrill noise of the axe on the first chain, once, twice, three times. Leon's arm falls lifeless next to his body and he is being held only by one arm now.
I ran to help hold his torso. Leon's fragrance enters my system. I stop thinking and regain control a little. So this is what mate bonding does: it relaxes you and comforts your soul.
Lucas, continue now on the other chain. I felt the vibration of the iron hitting the silver and felt each strike of Lucas. This time, it took four strikes for Leon to finally get free.
Leon's weight is significant due to the strength of his muscles, and I have to place his body lightly on the ground, which is a dark red, an authentic pool of blood, rather than brown.
How and why did my father do this to him? What kind of a monster is he?
Lucas goes to the faucet, and I see water coming out of the hose.
This hose seems to be used to clean the floor, as I also see small pipes on the floor that lead to a sewer.
"He is an Alpha. He won't leave this place filthy like that. We can at least treat him with some dignity." Lucas mutters, which I can make out. Both of them are Alphas, and Lucas is handling Leon the way he would like to be treated. In the werewolf world, an Alpha who is perceived in this manner may lose the respect of some people.
Lucas relocates Leon's lifeless body to a more sanitary location and starts to wash it with hose water.
And I find myself torn between two polar opposite emotions. On the one hand, I watch as the water laces Leon's body and lose myself in the flawless definition of his muscles. However, I cry because my worry is excessive.
Anthony walks in, holding a suitcase. I was perplexed, but I soon understood that Lucas requested it. After removing a bottle from his personal case that I can tell is a bottle of shampoo from the way he holds it, Lucas runs the liquid in it through Leon's hair. Then he pours a second one, which I presume to be shower gel, directly onto Leon's body and spreads it with the water. all of this at a breakneck pace.
Anthony walks back out, leaving the three of us alone again.
I can see the size of his organ when Lucas removes Leon's pants to wash them in the water. My mouth slightly widens, and I can't help but utter something.
Lucas stares at me, rolling his eyes. Lucas is dressing Leon in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.
He picks up Leon's body, but I can tell that Lucas has some difficulty; Leon is effectively large. I decide to help. Lucas holds one of Leon's arms around his neck and I do the same for the other. Fortunately, the corridors are wide and we manage to pass all three of us without difficulty.
When we reach the exit door, Lucas stops, causing me to stop as well.
"What do we do now?" He asks me, and I can feel his fear. If my father shows up first, we will be outnumbered.
