Body Swap Or Not

Leon POV

Melanie is now in front of Lucio and is paying close attention to him. Like she's trying to unlock a secret code in my soul.

"Lucio, let Leon come back; I need to talk to him. We are not a threat." I recognized Melanie because we had been friends since we were kids. She must be interpreting things wrongly. I reverted to my human form.

I tried to give my mate a hug, but she pushed me away. I'm perplexed. How can we transition from hot to cold?

"Leon, Would you please put on some shorts?" Melanie shrugs and hides her eyes in embarrassment. I chuckle a little and grab the shorts that are on the chair. They must have been left here for me by someone, I suppose.

When I woke up, I smelled my partner, Kayla (Alice), who has the most lovely scent there is, and then space descended from heaven to chaos.

Perhaps they discovered what Natalie and I did. It made perfect sense and would explain all this.

What puzzles me is how Kayla (Alice), who had been responding to me so well, could suddenly become cold and sad. I admit that it is extremely strange when I look at that body. I missed her old one.

I trembled when I saw Kayla's body at the door. I had a brief moment of difficulty accepting the truth, that their bodies were swapped. And Kayla's body was not hers anymore.

"Leon, you betrayed your fated mate and attempted to murder her. Why?" I was being questioned by Melanie and I began to laugh at her statements. She has no knowledge of the spell, she must think the worse.

"Send that werewolf away and I'll explain." I asked her, since I can't risk telling the truth in front of anyone.

"He's my mate. He can be trusted, and we have no secrets." When Melanie told me that, I snarled. That same werewolf was preparing to attack me just a moment ago.

"He was ready to launch at me! " I snorted.

"He was trying to protect YOUR fated mate! From YOU!" She protests while she maintains the same speech. She is angry now. I´m feeling confused.

Melanie is a person who keeps her promises, and I need to explain what's happening, so I decided to tell her, even if that alpha wolf is here with us.

"She is Kayla (Alice)." I pointed to my mate´s body. I knew Melanie would not understand so I started to tell her the truth.

"Kayla and Alice, Alpha Vincent's daughter, were the subjects of a body and wolf swap performed by Natalie. Natalie casted a spell to change their bodies." Melanie looked at me strangely as I explained to her. She looks between my mate and I as she shakes her head and inhales deeply.

"No, Leon. Alice is the shewolf in front of you. Natalie changed wolves not bodies." When Melanie responded, I started to laugh. As if only the wolves could be altered.

In another body, Kayla is the person sitting next to me. I can smell her fragrance.

I acknowledge that I am having some difficult time handling this, so I must understand Melanie struggle to believe me. I need to give her time to accept Kayla is in Alice´s body now.

"No. This is Kayla! I would never betray Kayla, much less hurt her." I said with absolute certainty, fixing my gaze on Melanie.

I watched my little friend, who stood in front of me, with moist eyes and unshed tears. I can read her expression of complete shock.

My words somehow caused her pain. Something is not right. What i told her should make her understand and instead she is even more angrier than before. My smile fades and I´m in a pure confused state.

My supposed mate lowers her head in an act of disbelief and that's when I realize what Melanie told me.

Natalie switched their wolves. I felt Thea, but is Alice there, not Kayla. Did I mistakenly take Alice for Kayla?

I looked at the body of the one I thought, until a moment ago, to be Kayla... and murmured...

"Kayla?" My wonder almost makes me stutter. To think that I cheated and tried to kill my mate is almost an insult. I still hope she confirms she is Kayla and that this is a bad misunderstanding.

But the young woman in front of me started to sob even more.

"I'm so sorry. I couldn't think... I'm sorry!" she says, putting her hands to her face in desperation, and to my great confusion, the words slowly start to make sense. She is Alice, not Kayla!

"What?" I know the answer, but I need someone to explain it to me.

I blink in an attempt to make sense of it all. I'm striving to piece together all that has transpired here. If Melanie is correct, I deceived Kayla and attempted to harm her. Wow!

"Yes. Despite the fact that Thea is here with me, I am Alice." She tells me while her body trembles from crying.

"Kayla was Kayla, right? What about Alice's wolf?" I keep asking the same questions because I'm trying to cram everything in.

On the inside, I'm not as calm as I appear. I'm disgusted with myself, and my insides are revolting.

I broke out of prison and I intended to atone for my misdeeds, and I've just committed the most serious of all.

I've just lost my soulmate, my genuine love, and part of myself. Not because she was taken away from me, but because I screwed it up on my own.

I am unable to bear the agony of the prospect of losing her.

"Yes. It seems that you cheated and attempted to murder your mate. Do you no longer have the desire to laugh?" Now Melanie is giving me the evil eye. I was giggling up until that point because I thought Melanie was mistaken. I thought she didn´t know about the spell.

"I thought she was Kayla!" I shouted in despair!

"When Lucio picked up Thea´s scent, so I assumed it was Kayla. Natalia allegedly switched wolves and corpses. It was her fragrance, so I thought it was her.

I threw the chair as hard as I could until it thumped against the wall.

I ran my hands through my hair.

YOU! It was YOU! You switched their wolves and now this! Lucio yells at me.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I shouted at Alice. Lucio wants to take over and I´m struggling with him.

"I got carried away by the mate bond. I didn't have time to think...I..." I had to interrupt her. If she knew I belonged to someone else, how could she?

"You tricked me!" My accusatory tone is the best I can give her, because Lucio wanted to kill Alice in one fell swoop. The only reason he doesn't is because Thea is with her.

I'm tired of hearing "I didn't fool anyone!" as an explanation. She felt the pull, yes, but does that mean she should violate her morals and break up a relationship between two adults?

"You were aware that I was someone else's mate, not yours. You ought to have intervened to prevent me from kissing and touching you." I nearly lost my cool as I yelled at her. I touched her, the mere thought of it makes me feel sick. She is beautiful, right, but she is not my mate.

"I'm sorry!" She screamed loudly.

"I was trying to protect you because I thought you were Kayla, but it turns out I almost attacked my soul mate? And you're sorry? Will your apology make the incident go away?" I'm completely in need. I can now identify the hurt I saw in Kayla´s eyes. How could I ignore it?

She also snorts at me, "I didn´t want to hurt Lucas either. If he already only had eyes for Kayla, imagine now! I lost my mate too!" I don't let anyone use that tone of voice, but the fact that she mentioned Kayla and another werewolf in the same sentence made me set aside my alpha tendencies and pay attention to what Alice had just said.

"What?" I asked in full anger, letting my protective and possessive side come out.

"Leon, remain calm! I'll go through some images from the past, now. Give me your hand; it's better than attempting to explain." I'm on the verge of pleading for co-control, but Melanie's voice subdues some of my internal rage. I agree to give her my hand when she asks.

My hand is in Melanie's. When I close my eyes, I catch glimpses of the past.

As Kayla and Alpha Dolivo are standing close to each other and I see Alice telling the story to Melanie.

I overheard Melanie and Kayla talking about Jaime. I saw Kayla and tha alpha touching their arms.

As well as Dolivo telling Kayla I was still alive.

Before they entered the room, I overheard Kayla talking to him and i saw how he touched her.

I observed how she reacted when she saw us, me and Alice, and how the alpha and Melanie's mate shielded her.

I am in despair. I opened my eyes and I didn't see Alpha or Kayla in the room. Both of them have left. Even without meaning to, I destroyed everything. I put all of us in this predicament.

But Kayla is mine. I may lose everything, but not my fated mate, I think, with determination.

After all this, will Kayla choose him instead of me? I have to admit that he is a powerful Alpha Wolf who is young, like me. He would be perfect for her too. He has a pack, I lost everything. Lucio is enraged at the thought. He screamed angrily at me. Loosing her to another will mean my own death. I will not be able to live without her.

I must, I must find her. I pray for it. I punched the wall so hard that the wall has a hole now.

"Melanie, can you pull out my emotions and my past concerning Kayla?" I asked her. I need her to understand me and help me to pursue forgiveness. Kayla will listen Melanie.

"Only if you willingly relive them and pass them on to me." She answers me, willing to receive my past images.

"Then please, can you access my mind?" I gave her my hand.

"Of course." Melanie picks my hand and I feel her energy filling my mind.

I demonstrated to her how I had foreseen Jaime's assault. I showed her the arrangement Vincent and I went to. I demonstrated to her what took place in Natalie's case. I gave her a very brief rundown of what had happened since I got to Vincent's pack up until now. I hope she can understand me now. That she can see the honesty in me.

Melanie saw and felt everything. When I finished she pulled me in, hugged me and started to cry and tried to comfort me.

Her mate started to growl and I quickly pulled her away. I need them to help me get Kayla back. I don´t need a possessive wolf troubling this more than it is. What a mess.

"Oh Leon." I could hear her while gazing at me with sad eyes.

"I may not be a perfect mate, I surely made mistakes, but it was always to protect her. Her and our world. Melanie help me."

"I will help you". Alice informs.

" If you ever get close to me again, I won't answer for my actions." I snorted at Alice. I need her to be far away from me.

"Where did they go?" I asked Melanie, because I wanted to go to Kayla, explain everything and ask for forgiveness.

"She won't listen to you if you go and talk about you two!" Melanie shoots the truth like an arrow and it hits me right in the face. I know she is absolutely right. Kayla, as the Alpha she is, and with the offspring she has, will never accept to hear me just because.

"It's time for you to give us all the answers we seek. She'll come, because she's also looking for them and with that you can also explain all this." Melanie suggested and I know I have no choice but to agree.

"Whether she will forgive you is another story! That's for her to decide." She says this with a sad smile on her face.

"What about that antidote you mentioned in the picture?" I asked her, because that is now another problem I have on my hands, and one I need to fix.

"I searched for Natalie's belongings but was unsuccessful in finding anything. As you can see, I didn't have the opportunity to obtain it, but I'm sure my father has it in his book of spells and antics." I nod in agreement when she says that we must steal the book, even if it means my demise as a werewolf.

"Jacob, send a mindlink to Lucas. We need to talk. All of us!" Melanie requests at her mate, who nods at her.

"Meanwhile, I need to talk to Thea. Can you let me do it?" I asked Alice. I think it´s the best I can do for now.

"Sure!" She agrees and i can see her eyes changing to Thea´s.

I cross our gazes as I tell Thea, "Thea! I'm so sorry!" The guilt is so strong that I find it difficult to look at her.

"I'm so glad you're alive, that you're here," Thea begins, but I already know her and I know it didn't end there, not least because she didn't even approach me.

"I hope there's a good reason for all of this, Leon. My mate is Lucio, but I will support rejection if there isn't a good reason." Thea says in a heavy voice that scares me.

My worst nightmare is about to come true. I´m terrified.

"I didn't realize it was Alice; I assumed it was you and Kayla! How could you not intervene?" My outrage is well-known. I feel betrayed, as if Thea betrayed Kayla and me.

"I was recuperating. You recovered faster because I poured all of my energy into you, seizing the opportunity when Alice touched you while you were still inanimate." She sighs sadly, her voice tinged with disappointment. She obviously didn't like what I was implying before. I´m not doing this right, i think to myself.

"I was exhausted and needed to collect myself; I only came to when I heard you call her "Kayla." It was already too late." She shared this with a sad smile.

"I couldn't stand up to Kayla or Mia. Mia was protecting Kayla from her own human form, Alice. Do you understand what that means to a wolf? Mia was in agony because she was saving herself for Aric, whereas Alice was giving it all away for the sake of lust." She says this while lightly touching my shoulder. Now I understand why Mia shifted and was growling at Alice.

"Mia is angry with Alice because she knows how Kayla respected the bond you two shared, how she fought to keep herself strong with the love she feels for you." Her words are giving me some comfort, but at the same time they are breaking me even more, knowing that Kayla struggled and Mia too.

"As much as I want more than this touch, more of you, Kayla, is now the decision maker. I'd forgive you if there was an explanation for the exchange of bodies and wolves, but I'm afraid, Leon, I don't think there is." And Thea stepped back, allowing Alice to reclaim control.

Rejection! This word makes me insane with pain and guilt!
