Jacob POV - One Week Before
My first shift occurred 2 days ago. It did hurt a little, but it was awesome.
I can't even explain the feeling of freedom I have when my wolf, Kael, takes his form and runs through the fields and forest.
When I shifted, my senses, if they were already sharp, became even sharper. I can even hear the beating wings of butterflies flying over the field of flowers meters away. I just need to concentrate a little, and I can hear their sounds.
I am running into the forest, feeling this freedom and enjoying nature's smells.
The wind whips my face and the smells of nature invade my senses, engulfing me in some kind of trance. Somehow, I detected a new smell in my nostrils... Something light, sweet, and new. There is something different about it that attracts me to the core. I can only see traces. My curiosity is something hard to defy, so I decide to follow the new scent.
Kael, my wolf, was impatient and forced his way out to track it. I let my body shift. Kael has better hearing and sense of smell than I do in my human shape. He would trail it with success.
Kael is a little edgy now. I could tell the smell had also aroused his full focus.
After several frustrating attempts, he finally manages to pick up the correct trail. At the height of his strength, he searches for the target. Scent traces become stronger and stronger, more and more intoxicating.
Kael slows down the pace, tracking the odor around us. Like him, I can smell now other scents that mingle with the one we are chasing.
Our sense of hearing, which we now use, detects female sounds. They seem to belong to someone who is suffering and making an effort.
Kael can also hear growls. Rogues. Their disgustful scents are mixed with the most inebriating ones.
Something makes our hearts clench and beat faster. My wolf senses the woman is in trouble. We are not able to think of anything else, then saving her.
We launched into an unfaithful race to get close to her. To help her!
"Mate!" Kael whispers in our minds, as soon as he sees her. Kael is mesmerized, but the scene is worrisome.
Several rogues surrounded her!
Ivy and plants are popping up from nowhere, preventing the rogues from approaching her. Just as plants, from nature, grow out of nowhere, they also disappear in thin air.
Then I realized that when my mate extended her arms with her hands open, the plants started to grow. It´s like her arms were commanding them to show. Every time she turned around, and her arms left, they would disappear as if they never existed there before. Popping up again in the new place, she points out.
What??? Is my mind playing tricks?
I blink my eyes several times because I think I am seeing things. The kind of weird thing that scares you. What the hell?
Is she the one who is creating this? How?
I´m petrified but Kael doesn´t seem surprised. His focus is on our mate.
One of the werewolves successfully bypasses one of her creations. I see him preparing to jump toward her petite frame. Kael wakes up from his trance... and without thinking, he runs quickly, letting out a loud and aggressive growl.
The rogues, surprised, turned their attention to us... it was enough to give Kael the upper hand and get closer.
Our mate is shocked as well, but she quickly focuses her attention on the battlefield. She creates a barrier of rocks on one side, making it impossible for two of the rogues, that were on that side, to approach.
Kael takes the cue and launches himself toward three others. Both are in an attack position, just like Kael, but unlike them, Kael doesn't wait, he immediately jumps on the rogue´s back. Kael positions himself and waits for the right moment to make a fatal bite.
One of the rogues is currently biting Kael´s back, but nothing that will prevent Kael from reaching his goal.
When the opportunity arises, we could say there was once a rogue fighting us. Minus one, four to go, I think to myself.
At that moment, I felt the wolf who was biting me lost his strength. His claws are trying to grab onto Kael´s fur but something is pulling him out of our back. I slightly tilted my head to the side and I could see an ivy squeezing his neck and pushing him away from me. I am surprised! I see my mate with both of her arms outstretched. One towards the stone wall, and the other towards the ivy, commanding them. So powerful!
She is really perfect, I think. I admire her, lost in my thoughts.
Another rogue, taking advantage of our distraction, desperately lunges at Kael, biting him on the chest. Kael let out a loud growl.
He has two rogues clinging to him. We need to get rid of both of them quickly. Kael rotates his body as if to roll over...
As soon as Kael changed his position, the rogue wolf, who had the ivy strangling him, finally let go. Using gravity as a weapon had its perks, I thought to myself.
Without the weight on our rear, we can finally give our full attention to the one who is wounding our chest.
Kael´s back is on the floor now. His front paws press down on the adversary's chest, pushing him away. One movement and the rogue is already lying lifeless beside us.
The third wolf now struggles harder to breathe. The ivy clutched his neck, making him struggle. My mate's face shows her heightened effort i what she is doing.
Kael runs lost in anger. Seeing his mate struggling with the rogue, made him lose his mind. He charges and takes the enemy's life. Minus 3! Two rogues to go!
Kael goes near the stone wall, where the other 2 are. He fights and kills them on short notice. And the winner is Kael!
I´m proud of us. We made a good show in front of our mate. Our mate must be impressed! I thought to myself with pride.
My mate looks around, checking if there are enemies alive. She signs and smiles at us. At that moment, she lowers her arms.
The ivy disappears immediately. The wall of stones that is right next to me, to my surprise, does not disappear but crumbles down. Down on me.
It was too late to escape. I feel my body being hit. I fall into the darkness that totally embraces me.
