Sam felt fingers stroking her cheek and smiled in her sleep. She turned her head so that her cheek pressed more firmly into the soft touch. Her eyes snapped open. Not Amber. She met her mother’s gaze and pulled her cheek out of reach. She did a quick assessment of her body and was please that there was only a slight dull ache now. She’d be out of there by end of the day if she had to fight her way out. Diane pulled her hand back and flinched at the anger she saw flare-up in Sam’s eyes. She knew she’d lied, and she’d known the second Mark had started improving, that her relationship with Sam would be hurt.
