  16 Allison paced the empty stands. She didn’t really want to talk to Cole in front of her dad, but there he was, standing next to her. As soon as Cole rushed out of the dugout, Allison lost her breath. She wanted to jump over the wall, onto the field, and into his arms, but she waited. “You’re still here,” Cole said, breathless like he’d been running. “I told you I’d wait.” He grinned. “Thank you. I, uh, it’s nice to see you.” “You too.” “Have the reporters backed off you yet?” Allison nodded, noting that her dad was moving away from them to give them some privacy. “I saw everything was dropped.
