Future Husband

Richard walked toward the stage, then leaned slightly to whisper to the host, asking her to take his place for a moment. "Of course, sir!" the woman replied before whispering to her colleague beside her. Now, a microphone was in Richard’s hand. He looked at the invited guests, most of whom were employees of Archo Property. "Good evening, everyone!" As soon as he spoke into the microphone, all attention turned to him. Everyone had been waiting for the happy announcement Richard was about to make. "May I have your attention, please? I have a small announcement to make!" "First, thank you to everyone for making this event run smoothly and successfully. With that, the 20th anniversary celebration of Archo Property is officially underway!" Applause erupted throughout the hall, enthusiastic and lively. Richard was known as a leader with great loyalty and kindness, which was why all his employees admired him. Meanwhile, Vay looked as if she was about to faint from frustration. Her body had been stiff as a tree trunk the entire time. Maya, noticing her daughter's reaction, chuckled softly. It was amusing to see Ethan possessively wrapping his arm around Vay’s waist, while Vay herself looked tense and anxious. ‘They make such a perfect couple!’ Maya thought to herself, secretly taking a photo of them. "I personally want to express my endless gratitude to everyone," Richard continued. "This company has grown tremendously because of your contributions. Thank you very much!" He bowed slightly in appreciation as the audience responded with another round of applause. "And tonight, I have another important announcement to share with all of you. I want to share my happiness with everyone here!" People were already leaning forward in anticipation. They had been waiting for this moment. "Tonight, in addition to celebrating Archo Property’s anniversary, my daughter, Annevay Fiolarissa, will be getting engaged! Therefore, I am delighted to invite all of you to her wedding next week!" It was as if a lightning bolt had struck the room on a clear night. Vay’s body went weak at Richard’s words. Fortunately, the man beside her was still holding her waist, or she might have collapsed on the spot. And it wasn’t just Vay who was shocked—everyone in the room was stunned. No one had expected this announcement. Everyone knew that Vay had experienced a failed engagement before, but they had no idea she would be getting engaged again tonight. "And with that, allow me to introduce my future son-in-law, Ethan Harisson!" All eyes turned to Ethan. He stood there, his arm still wrapped tightly around Vay’s waist. His expression remained cold and composed. "Oh my God! Isn’t that the man I was talking about earlier?" Sakira was completely shocked. She never imagined that the handsome man was actually Vay’s fiancé. But why hadn’t she known about this? "Wow! Is Vay really getting married?" The entire hall buzzed with surprise and excitement. This was the most unexpected news in the history of Archo Property. But at the same time, it was also a joyous occasion for many. Vay’s once bright and cheerful face had now turned pale. This wasn’t a dream—unlike the nights when she had hoped everything was just an illusion. Because right now, people were approaching her and Ethan, congratulating them with warm smiles. They had only met once—yesterday, at her house. At that time, Vay had thought she was dreaming. "Let’s give a big round of applause for the couple!" Richard announced, gesturing toward Vay and Ethan. At that moment, the spotlight turned to them. A loud round of applause filled the room. Many guests were still in awe of the handsome man with the icy demeanor standing before them. A faint, almost imperceptible smile formed on his lips, yet it only added to Ethan Harisson’s undeniable charm. However, the sound of applause felt anything but joyful to Vay. To her, it was more like a death sentence—one she was powerless to refuse. For some reason, whenever she was around this man, she found herself unable to speak. Oh, she would definitely curse Ethan Harisson the moment this event was over. But for now, she had to maintain her composure. She couldn't reject him in front of all these guests, business partners, and employees of Archo Property. Everyone seemed to be overjoyed by this engagement announcement—especially Sakira. Vay had hoped that Sakira would object to this sudden engagement, but instead, she was the first one to cheer the loudest. In fact, Sakira clapped so enthusiastically that she looked like someone at a rock concert. "Annevay!! Congratulations!" Sakira rushed over with open arms, pulling Vay into an excited hug. "Oh my God! Why didn’t you tell me you already had a fiancé?" Vay didn’t respond. She remained silent, her face full of frustration. After all, this decision did not bring her any happiness. "By the way, it’s the handsome guy from earlier! I can’t believe he’s your fiancé! Vay, you’re unbelievable for keeping this from me!" Sakira whispered excitedly, afraid that the man beside them would hear. Vay forced a weak smile. Truthfully, she was about to pass out. But that strong hand of his remained firmly around her waist. And to make matters worse, Richard asked Ethan to escort Vay home. Even inside the car, Vay kept her face sullen, while Ethan had just gotten in and fastened his seatbelt. "Hey, miss—" Ethan’s words were cut off when Vay raised her hand right in front of his face, signaling him to stop talking. ‘I refuse to speak to this stranger!’ Vay grumbled internally, turning her face toward the window. Suddenly, Ethan leaned in closer, and Vay immediately noticed. Her expression turned panicked, but she stubbornly kept looking away. Thump! Her heart nearly stopped when she realized Ethan’s face was just centimeters away from hers. Their noses were almost touching. From this close, she could see the depth of his ocean-blue eyes, pulling her in like a powerful tide. They were mesmerizing—so hypnotic that she felt an unusual sense of calm wash over her. She could hear her own heartbeat racing, and even feel his cool, steady breath. Annevay had no idea what was happening to her. Instead of pulling away, she found herself leaning in closer. Those blue eyes drew her in deeper, making her feel at peace. Without realizing it, Vay slowly closed her eyes. Click! The sound of a seatbelt clicking snapped her out of her trance. Her eyes shot open wide. "I was just fastening my seatbelt. If you want something more, wait until we’re married." Vay swallowed hard. His deep, husky voice sent shivers down her spine. Damn it! Why did he have to sound so… like that?! "I—" "Get some rest. And wait for me tomorrow." This time, Vay turned to glare at him, her eyes full of anger and resentment. No matter how handsome he was, she hated him. "You!" She pointed a finger at his face, but he didn’t even glance at her. It was as if he wasn’t interested at all. "Bastard!" In the end, all she could do was curse at him. Just a few simple words from this man, and she was completely silenced. Vay opened the car door and stormed out, slamming it shut behind her. Bang! Ethan watched her leave, her hurried steps making her look amusing. "Interesting," he murmured, a mysterious smile playing on his lips. It seemed he was genuinely intrigued by Annevay.
