This is Just A Dream

Vay stretched in her sleep, her beautiful eyes slowly opening as they searched for a sliver of light. She gradually sat up on the bed, scratching the back of her neck, which felt slightly itchy. "Ethan Harrison! Your fiancé!" She immediately jolted awake, remembering the moment when her father arranged her engagement to a cold and mysterious man. The memory of his piercing gaze and enigmatic expression was still vivid in her mind. "Oh my God, was that just a dream?" Vay muttered to no one in particular. Her eyes scanned the entire room, trying to determine whether the event had been merely a dream or had truly happened. However, she found nothing unusual—only herself, alone in her bedroom. "Ah, thank goodness it was just a dream!" she sighed in relief, realizing that the dreadful event had been nothing more than a figment of her imagination. If that had really happened, her already chaotic life would have become even more miserable. She wasn’t ready—not yet, not while she was still trying to move on from the wounds of her past. After reassuring herself that it had all been a dream, Vay got out of bed and walked toward the window, which was still tightly covered by gold-colored curtains. She drew them open and gazed outside. There, she saw the gardener working, tending to the plants in the vast garden of their home. Vay moved her body in light stretches, trying to loosen her stiff muscles. Usually, on mornings like this, she would go for a jog around the neighborhood. But today, she felt exceptionally lazy. Instead, she chose to flop back onto her beloved bed. Something about her felt different—this wasn’t like her usual self. Her light stretching was interrupted when her phone rang, signaling an incoming call. She pouted but still reached for her phone, answering when she saw that it was Sakira. "What's up, Sakira?" "Vay? You’re already awake?" The voice on the other end sounded like a tease. Vay rolled her eyes in annoyance, knowing her crazy friend was about to start with her usual mockery. "Of course, I’m awake!" Vay responded, sitting at her vanity and staring at her still-swollen face in the mirror. "Wow! This is a huge achievement, Vay! You actually woke up this early on a weekend!" Vay pouted slightly as laughter echoed from the other end of the call, a clear sign of Sakira’s amusement at teasing her. "I just wanted to remind you about the gala dinner tonight at seven!" Sakira said excitedly. But unlike her, Vay showed no enthusiasm at all. "There are rumors going around that there will be some happy news tonight!" Sakira added. "Happy news? What kind of news?" Vay asked, confused. She genuinely had no idea. "Hey, miss! How would I know? I should be asking you!" Sakira huffed. "You’re the daughter of Archo Property’s owner! You should be in the know!" Vay furrowed her brows. She truly had no idea what this "happy news" was about. Could it be that Maya, her stepmother, was pregnant? But that seemed unlikely since they had always said that Sam was enough. This gala dinner was being held to celebrate the anniversary of Archo Property. It was a moment Sakira looked forward to the most—not only because she could indulge in delicious food for free but also because she could admire a sea of handsome men. That was why Sakira was so excited. And on top of that, she couldn’t wait to confirm the circulating rumors. "So, you really don’t know anything?" Vay shook her head, even though Sakira couldn’t see her. "I have no idea, Sakira! Alright, see you later!" Vay ended the call. She knew Sakira was probably grumbling now about how she had abruptly cut her off. She stepped out of her pink-themed bedroom—except for the sky-blue walls—and hummed softly as she descended the staircase. From there, she spotted Maya, who was busy preparing breakfast. At the dining table, Richard and Sam, her six-year-old stepbrother, were already seated. "Good morning, everyone!" Vay greeted cheerfully, planting a playful kiss on Sam’s cheek before taking a seat beside him. "Good morning, Vay!" They responded in unison. "Sis Vay, you haven’t showered yet, have you?" Sam suddenly asked, making Vay freeze just as she was about to grab a piece of bread and a glass of milk. She chuckled, a sign that Sam's accusation was spot on. It was one of Vay’s bad habits—if she wasn’t going to the office or had no urgent errands, she would rather skip a shower. But no one would ever suspect such a thing from her, not when she always looked flawless, like a princess. Meanwhile, Richard and Maya merely shook their heads, watching their two children interact despite their significant age gap. Yet, they still seemed close and inseparable. In fact, Sam often claimed that Vay was the kind of woman he wanted in his future. They continued enjoying their breakfast in peace, engaging in light conversation about the gala dinner that evening.
