Chapter 006

Chapter 006 Sigrid's Point of View I need to understand how you developed such speed. Your combat skills surpass anything I have witnessed in any of the warrior camps at home. My eyes lock onto hers, and I lift my eyebrow. Is she just being nice? "Umm, okay. I dedicate most of my time to training, which explains everything. I didn't get to know her well enough to explain my wolf's early arrival, which contributed to my speed. The majority of kids receive their wolves during their sophomore and junior years. Most prominent wolves gain their powers during their freshman year, which explains why all the young Alphas and my brother received theirs at this time. I received mine at the end of eighth grade, which happens infrequently. The fact that I got my wolf shortly after the guys worried me because despite having beta blood, I remain an unranked member who probably never will become ranked. Delta Kjetil introduced me to Luna Ingrid, and she's been assisting me since that moment. "Hey, Sigrid, here." Delta Kjetil approaches me, slow-jogging while holding something small between his fingers. The back of your shirt came up too high. The movement of your shirt seems to have reopened one of your newer injuries. He gazes at me with anticipation while I return his look with equal expectation. This conversation stays between us until I find a more private moment because the first non-adult who spoke to me in years stands here. I need to avoid scaring the new girl because she doesn’t recognize me yet. I take the small container. "Thank you, Delta. Is there anything else?" The look on his face shows clear disapproval of my attitude while signaling that he has more to say. He forms a large barrier with his arms across his chest as he attempts to appear threatening. Everything works for everyone except me. "Not now, okay? I promise I will explain later." I mind linking him. He will persist in bothering me unless I provide him with something. As soon as I discover who is responsible, I'll ensure they face severe consequences. "Which is why you won’t find out. Petty school bullies who lack strength and need to use silver powder to inflict pain should not overshadow your more important concerns. I hear a roaring growl while sensing his Delta aura spreading outward from his body. Everyone stops and looks at us. I should have kept that information to myself. Anyone without the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, or Delta ranks positions their heads downward and sideways to show submission. My wolf senses his adult status with full rank, which makes him stronger than me, yet my Beta blood gives me the strength to resist. I do not break eye contact. He remains unaware of the power my wolf grants me, but submission is not an option. My inner wolf and my sense of self-respect both prevent me from giving in. Solveig manages to resist full submission despite the challenge. She keeps her chin up while her eyes show respect by looking down. I am curious about which position she holds in her pack hierarchy. What purpose do high school students have for using silver powder? This substance serves as a brutal method for interrogation and torture. Sigrid, tell me who this person is without delay! This is no longer a game." He is seething. His anger radiates from him in pulses that I can feel. "No! I took care of the situation, so you need to step away and avoid creating further issues. I appear weak when you intervene and I'm already being targeted. You’ll just make it worse. The situation deteriorates whenever someone attempts to help. I quickly turn away and make my way to the locker rooms to shower and get ready for school before I can say anything. Solveig trails behind me without providing any comments on my staring match with our head trainer. I open my locker to take out my shower supplies. I move all my belongings to the cubicle at the end before shutting the curtain. I place my clothes and towel on the bench in the small changing area that sits outside the shower stall, then start the water as hot as I can stand and step in, shutting the shower curtain. I like having the double barrier. I never change out in the open. The lashes on my back will take a long time to heal due to Kari's silver powder application, so I must keep others from seeing my bruised and cut body. Kjetil's words turned out true because I felt the hot water sting the open wound and watched as blood flowed down the drain, turning the water pink. After finishing my shower, I extend my hand through the curtain to pick up my towel while remaining unseen and then wrap myself securely. When I open the curtain, I feel secure about my coverage. I jump and shout, "Oh damn!" Don’t do that!" Solveig continues to laugh while she stands against the wall as if sneaking into someone's private space is a perfectly ordinary act. You left this behind, so I will have to help you put it on. The cuts exist in areas that would be difficult to reach without assistance. She softly says something to me and then spins her finger towards me, signaling I should turn around because the conversation has ended. I don't move. I just stare at her. I will help you whether you cooperate or not, but it would save us time if you just allowed me to help you willingly. She just stares unblinkingly. I won't be asking questions at this moment. Her determined look doesn't waver. Okay, help it is then. I move my towel to reveal my back, which displays fifteen lashes. The five oldest lashes resulted from the fifteen minutes I spent asking a history class question, which led to extra note-taking and a pop quiz. Our teacher had announced the quiz the day before, which made it a 'known' quiz, but Kari remained completely unyielding in her anger. The latest ten lashes occurred at the year's end after the boys received their wolves. Their celebrity status increased due to their new wolves, which made me too close to them when I asked my brother a question while standing among them. Entering the space of someone more accomplished than you can result in punishment. Solveig didn’t make any comment about her surprise or disgust. She applied the cream with gentle care to all the cuts on my back. Some of these wounds date back some time, but the cream should work on erasing the scar tissue. My parents must have access to stronger remedies than this cream. "No! I am handling it, I promise. You don’t need to tell your parents. Thank you, though." I didn’t want to be rude. She meant well, but I needed to prove that I could endure her punishments without showing weakness to Kari. Keeping the matter between us is essential because if Solveig tells her parents, then it could reach the Alpha and Luna, among others, which would make things worse for me. "If you say so. Someone needs to help me learn where everything is at school. You up for it?" She switched topics so fast that I thought I might experience whiplash. I'll put on some clothes and then we can go to get your schedule. She ignored my hint to leave, and that forced me to dress embarrassingly under my towel. She understands her behavior is making me feel uncomfortable. The school, which was only one block from the training grounds, became our next destination. After bringing Solveig to the main office I introduced her to the secretary who assisted her in setting up her schedule, locker, and combination. We toured the school because we had about 45 minutes before our scheduled time. The majority of students departed for their homes following their training sessions. My safety from Kari was extended a bit whenever I spent time with Delta Kjetil or stayed in the locker room. I discovered that Solveig and I shared several classes. She belongs to the next grade, but advanced classes allowed me to be in the same grade as her even though I am a year younger. The first two classes of our schedule overlap, so we will be together for those periods. That will make things way more fun." Her voice carries a little happy chirp when she speaks. You’ll need to identify everyone who deserves my friendship and those who should be avoided. I don’t believe I’m the right person to handle that responsibility. I naturally gravitate toward solitude and strive to remain unnoticed whenever possible. I struggle to fit in socially and deliberately stay away from social gatherings as if it’s my responsibility. As we reached our first class of the day, I started to walk to the back of the room to sit down in my regular place. She responded with a huff but remained silent as she walked back with me. Can Solveig ultimately accept Sigrid’s secret, or will their budding friendship fall apart before it truly starts?
