“I’m her mate, you i***t. I don’t have to force her to love me. That’s happening all on its own.” My statement only makes him more angry. His guard is almost to us now and I can see two more coming as well. Without warning he c***s his right arm back to strike me. “Tsk tsk Pierce. Maybe you should’ve taken training more seriously,” I feel him growl. I lower my voice so only he can hear me. “I know what you did, Pierce. I know who you worship. I know who you sold your soul to. You will not win this. You will not take Raine away from me.” My voice is barely a whisper but it is laced with venom and my alpha aura. He stands completely still. I'm sure he looks completely shocked but I can’t see his face well.

“Sorry Alpha Regent,” his guard yells as he approaches. “He got in front of me and that’s all it took. I was just giving him some air, but clearly he can’t be trusted.”

I nod at his guard and release my hold. Three guards grab Pierce and place him back in cuffs. They lead him back into the council chambers. Pierce looks back and smiles wickedly at me.

“We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we Jasper?” He laughs maniacally before the door closes behind him.

The rest of the council went well. Pierce was found guilty of domestic abuse, abuse of a pack member, and abuse of power. He was stripped of his alpha title and sentenced to 10 years in prison here in Bryce’s pack along with mandatory counseling for his condition.

As they walked Pierce out, he made eye contact with me and smiled wickedly. My stomach has been clenched in a knot since. Pierce was up to something. I had a feeling he wouldn’t be spending much time in that prison at all.

Bryce and I are walking back to his house in a comfortable silence. It’s late. The stars are shining brightly in the sky tonight. A cool breeze zips through the trees around us. I can hear the wind chimes hanging from Bryce’s porch dancing in the wind.

“Man, I’m glad this is over,” Bryce grumbles. “Talia has been just a wreck since it all started. I guess she feels guilty because Raine’s dad made Pierce promise to take care of Raine when he died. And Talia feels like it’s her fault for not stepping in when she first noticed something was going on.”

I shake my head. “She didn’t promise anything. Why does she feel guilty?”

Bryce shrugs his shoulders.

“I think they all are messed up, man. I guess Raine’s mom just disappeared when she was five. Then Talia’s parents and Raine’s dad died in a rogue wolf attack when they were 12. Talia’s parents died near the battle, but Raine’s dad made it back to the pack hospital before he passed. It sounds like it was pretty bad. They were all there when he passed. I guess the old beta raised them and took over as alpha in command until Pierce came of age and finished his training.”

I nod my head, faintly remembering the rogue wolf pack that had attacked smaller packs 8 years ago. I didn’t realize Harvest Moon had been one of their targets. Raine had been through a lot in her life. More than most.

I hear the front door swing open and see Talia making a break for Bryce. She jumps into his arms and latches on to him. He barely moves as her tiny body collides with his.

“Is it over?” I hear her ask, her voice is shaky.

“Yes, my sweet, it’s over. He’s going to be here for his imprisonment. You are allowed to visit if you want.”

She nods her head and I see her shoulders start to shake. I know she’s conflicted between her love for Raine and her brother, especially now that I know she lost her parents too.

“It’ll work out ok Talia,” I say as I rub her back. “They’re getting him therapy while he’s in there. Hopefully it helps him.” She turns her head and smiles at me and nods her head.

I look back to the front door and see Raine standing on the porch watching us. I can feel her apprehension. She has her arms wrapped around herself as she watches me walk to her.

“It’s over, Raine,” I say as I reach her. I reach my arms out for her and she just collapses into me bawling. I kiss the top of her head and rub her back. I let her cry as I completely support her weight.
