My Husband Was With Me

Lyria POV “What are you talking about? There are many eyewitnesses who saw the mortician leaving with the Alpha's corpse,” Elder Thorne, who had been quiet like none of this had anything to do with him, asked. I moved my gaze from Dave to Alpha Azriel. As much as I have every reason to pin this on Alpha Azriel, I don't want to. He proved me wrong. The drink from last night wasn't from him. Cassandra said it was from Ariana, and the one who secretly took care of me without anyone in the pack knowing was Alpha Azriel. “My father was not only stabbed, he was poisoned. Those multiple stabs were signs of struggle,” I forced out those words. If the explanation Cassandra gave me earlier was true, I have to stand my ground on finding the killer through thorough investigation without pinning it on Alpha Azriel and also on the fact that my father is alive. That is the only way I won't have to end my marriage with Alpha Azriel and also have to get married to another man who would lead the pack. I have tried that once, but it only led to my end. Becoming the pack's Luna while investigating all of these mysteries and trying to pierce the dots together to survive and not mess this second chance up is my goal. “Then how come he was still alive?” Dave asked like my father was supposed to be dead. “He was poisoned and stabbed brutally several times, Lyria. “Look, you are right in front of the pack elders, and you know how much this would affect this pack and how ridiculous it would be if the news of our Alpha being murdered in his house spread across packs.” I clenched my teeth, trying not to overreact or burst into tears. To think fate is about to drag me back to the hell I was ended up in. Whatever it takes, I don't want to end up with Dave, and neither do I want to meet the same fate. “Alpha Azriel is the only one in our midst capable of doing this to Alpha Xavier. Not as if—” “My husband was with me all through last night. It was our wedding night,” I interrupted Dave, who was about to take this far. “For now, we are going to focus on finding my father's killer and also his recovery.” Everyone remained quiet for a while, staring at me like I was someone different. Even Alpha Azriel had his gaze on me. “Princess Lyria, while everything you said is what we are supposed to do, you know this pack can't… not without the Alpha,” Elder Bart explained calmly. “And we can't have an Alpha from another pack rule us temporary.” “Elder Bart, we don't need another Alpha. As long as Alpha Xavier is alive, Lyria can lead the pack. She should be the pack's Luna for now—” Dave burst into laughter at my father's Beta’s words like they were a joke. “You mean, you want an Omega to rule us—” Without waiting for Dave to make mockery of me, I walked up to him and landed two slaps across his face. Without caring about the gasps in the room, I walked back to the spot I sat down, trying hard not to ponder what I just did. “This isn't the first time a Luna was going to rule a pack, and by the way, it is temporary,” I stated, making sure not to reveal any care about what I did. Even this time when everything was changing, Dave never changed. He had always reminded me of the fact I am an Omega at every slightest chance he got, and the fool that I used to be would think he was doing me a favour. That was all the reason I endured everything for five years, only to meet my demise. “If there is nothing left to discuss, I would take my wife back inside,” Azriel's voice echoed before anyone could raise concern. He stretched his hand to me, a faint smile on his face. “Wifey, let's go.” I hesitated before taking in his hand, pretending not to hear the murmurs in the room. They said I had suddenly changed. They said this isn't the Lyria they knew… And maybe yes, they weren't wrong at all. “Wifey—” “Alpha Azriel, I didn't do what I did out there for your sake,” I interrupted him the moment we walked into my room, flashing back to what really happened last night. A part of me kept doubting if the Alpha Azriel I know was the same with the man who was Dave's rival. I remember how Dave would rile the whole place up every time he was a step behind Alpha Azriel. That ruthless man is capable of killing. No, it was something he would do without hesitating. He had brought down a few Alphas that way. Oh goddess… I just wish this second chance given to me won't be worse than my previous life. I won't forgive myself if I am actually the cause of my father's death! “Let me ask you one thing, Wifey,” Alpha Azriel's voice echoed before I could take a step to my bedside. “Why did you ask me to marry you yesterday?”
