The warehouse looked abandoned.
Broken windows.
Rusty doors.
Nothing but silence.
Daniel held my hand as we stepped inside.
“Maya?” he called.
No answer.
“Maya!”
Then we heard footsteps.
She appeared from behind a pillar.
“You came.”
Daniel looked around.
“Where’s the proof?”
Maya held up a small flash drive.
“Everything is on here.”
I stared at it.
“What everything?”
“The truth about the accident.”
Before Maya could say anything else, the warehouse door slammed shut.
We all turned.
Chris stood there.
Daniel immediately stepped in front of me.
“Chris.”
Chris sighed.
“You really don’t know when to stop.”
Maya held the flash drive tightly.
“You can’t scare us anymore.”
Chris laughed.
“You think that’s going to save you?”
“No,” Maya said. “But the police already have a copy.”
Chris froze.
“What?”
Maya smiled through her tears.
“I sent it before we came here.”
For the first time, Chris looked genuinely afraid.
Daniel stared at him.
“Tell me the truth.”
Chris said nothing.
“Why was Amara the target?”
Chris looked at me.
Then he lowered his eyes.
“Because of her father.”
My heart stopped.
“My father?”
Daniel looked at me.
Chris continued.
“Your father knew about the money.”
“What money?”
“The money that disappeared after the accident.”
Maya stepped forward.
“Chris and another person were stealing money from the company your father worked with.”
I shook my head.
“My father?”
“He found out,” Chris said. “And he threatened to expose them.”
“Who was the other person?”
Chris looked at me.
“Your mother.”
Everything inside me went cold.
“No.”
Maya nodded.
“She was there that night.”
I couldn’t speak.
My mother had known.
She had known about the accident.
She had known about Chris.
But why?
Daniel squeezed my hand.
“Amara, look at me.”
I looked at him.
“You’re not alone.”
Suddenly, police sirens could be heard outside.
Chris panicked.
He tried to run.
Daniel blocked him.
“You’re not going anywhere.”
The doors opened.
Police officers rushed inside.
Chris was arrested.
Maya handed them the flash drive.
And just like that, the secrets we’d been chasing for days finally came into the light.
Hours later, I sat outside the police station.
Daniel sat beside me.
Neither of us spoke for a while.
Then I whispered,
“Everything feels different.”
“I know.”
“I thought I knew everyone around me.”
Daniel looked at me.
“Sometimes people hide things.”
I looked at him.
“Did you?”
He smiled sadly.
“Probably.”
I laughed quietly.
“At least you’re honest now.”
He reached for my hand.
“I don’t want to lose you again.”
My heart skipped.
“Again?”
He smiled.
“Even when I didn’t remember everything, somehow… I still knew you mattered.”
I looked down at our hands.
“I was so scared.”
“So was I.”
He leaned closer.
This time, there were no secrets.
No lies.
No Chris.
No accident hanging between us.
Just us.
I smiled.
“So what happens now?”
Daniel squeezed my hand.
“We start over.”
I nodded.
“Together?”
“Together.”
And for the first time since everything began…
I believed him.
Because sometimes love isn’t about having a perfect story.
Sometimes it’s about surviving the broken parts…
and choosing each other anyway.
THE END ❤️
