Velora's face went pale, almost white as she watched Kyron walk past her towards her Elvira, but she suddenly grabbed his hand before he could reach her. “Kyron, I…”
Kyron jerked her hand away instantly as a surge of electricity ran through his veins which were already bulging darkly out of his hand. His brows furrowed as he stared at her. Her touch used to control his feral side, not awaken it.
Elvira lifted her gaze and took Kyron's hand. Her touch was never meant to heal him, yet she forced the forbidden magic through her fingers. The dark veins vanished instantly, a crude smile flashing across her face. “Mate,” she called, voice soft.
Kyron's brow pulled tightly together. Something about Elvira's touch felt wrong, it was only Velora who had control of his feral side, so what just happened?
He shoved Elvira's hand away, taking a step backward. “Who are you?”
Bastian stood up, his head still lowered. “Alpha, forgive my daughter, Elvira. She's meeting you for the first time and did—”
“You have two daughters?” Kyron interrupted, his gaze shifting to Velora.
“Only one daughter, Alpha,” Mariel replied, still on her knees. “And seems like she's your destined mate and—”
“I don't have a mate. Don't…” his voice trailed off, as a sharp pain pierced through his chest and left him groaning.
Velora's eyes dilated. That pain… she had read about it. A Lycan only suffered like that when rejecting their true mate. This was…this was the mate bond.
“Is anything wrong, Alpha?” Elvira asked, her voice smooth like silk as she reached for Kyron's arm.
“Touch me again,” Kyron growled, “and I'll make sure that's the last time you use them.”
Elvira took a step back, her face contorted with rage as she watched Kyron stare at Velora. Velora had lived enough of her life, and it was time to hand everything over.
“You can deny the truth, Alpha, but what about the bond?” Bastian asked, his voice as calm as possible.
Kyron shifted his gaze to Bastian. “Bond?” he repeated, his lips pursed. “Bring them to the pack house along with the priestess.”
Velora froze, was he believing them? Was he going to take Elvira as his Luna if the priestess said she was? She barely had time to think before the servants yanked her up, dragging her towards the palace like a criminal and Kyron showed no concern.

The air inside the pack hall was tense and dead silent.
On the mahogany throne sat Kyron, his grey eyes scrutinizing the whole hall. Across from him lined the four pack elders on the left and by the right were Velora, Elvira and Mariel.
The hall door suddenly opened, and the priestess walked in. She's about five thousand years old but still looks like she was twenty-five with her long blonde hair and pearl eyes.
“Alpha, you asked for me.” She acknowledged, lowering her head slightly.
Kyron barely nodded. “Do I have a mate?”
“Did you feel a mate pull?” the priestess countered.
Silence followed as everyone's attention shifted to Kyron. Valeria's heart pounded so loudly as terror overtook his face. She definitely felt their mate pull between them.
“I called you here for answers, not questions?” Kyron's lips drew back into a snarl.
“My apologies, Alpha,” she apologised. “Let the mates step forward.”
Velora chewed on her bottom lip as she watched Elvira step out confidently.
“Alpha, can you?” the priestess asked.
Kyron hesitated for a second, before stepping down and stopping before the priestess.
“Your thumbs?” the priestess demanded.
Kyron and Elvira both stretched forth their hand, and she pierced their thumb with a needle, letting their blood merge together halfway before reaching the floor.
Seconds later, the blood on the floor merged together to form a full moon which sent rippled murmurs through the hall.
Elvira's lips curved into a smile as she stared at the moon symbol on the floor before slightly shifting towards Velora. This was just the beginning. Kyron has to be hers, and only she can be the Luna of the Moonfang pack.
“Does that clear your suspicions, Alpha?” The priestess asked.
Kyron gaped at the moon symbol on the floor, feeling the moon drawing something out of his body, but suddenly, the moon symbol scattered, sending a jolting pain through his body.
Everyone's eyes widened.
“What is this supposed to mean?” Kyron bared his teeth, his brows slammed together in a deep grimace.
The priestess's eyes widened. “Someone bears your mark and that stands between the mate's pull.”
Kyron's eyes met Velora's scared eyes briefly before returning to the priestess. “Does that also cause pain?”
The priestess nodded. “Until you remove the mark, the pain will only increase.”
Velora quickly ran towards Kyron, but Elvira blocked her path. “He has a mate now, Velora. That mate shouldn't exist,” Elvira spat, voice sharp.
Before Velora could reply, Kyron's order came in cold like ice. “Priestess, remove the mark.”
Velora's mind went blank. Remove their mark? That was his promise to her. She had given him: her love, her innocence, her everything, but what did she get in return, this?
“You promised me…” her voice cracked as the servants held her down before the priestess. “You said I was the only one who could stay.”
Velora's heart broke into a million pieces when Kyron didn't move or stop them. Instead, he stood alongside others watching with cold faces. That's when realization dawned on her; everyone had already made their choice.
Guilt flashed through Kyron's eyes just as Velora's scream tore through the hall as the priestess sank the knife on the mark. His body reacted before his mind as his hands moved to reach for her, but then he stopped. He had a mate now, whatever they shared doesn't matter even though a part of him knew he was lying.
But when the knife was dragged out, the bond snapping sent a violent backlash through Kyron, forcing him to his knees. Fear crossed everyone's eyes as the powerful Alpha Kyron fell to his knees.
Velora fell to the floor, pain still lingering around her neck as her wolf, Ashina worked to heal it, but something else wasn't lingering anymore – the warmth that had always lived quietly under her was gone.
The priestess stepped back, dropping the knife just as the moon came together again. “The bond has been broken, you can be with your mate now.”
Murmurs erupted through the hall, a smile creeping onto Elvira's face as she reached to lift Kyron up, but then Kyron lifted his gaze instead and a hush fell over the hall.
Kyron's face was half shifted, his sharp fangs were glistening. Before anyone could realize what was happening, he grabbed the person nearest to him and sank his fangs inside her neck.
