Cade pulled me in for one last embrace as I was escorted to the truck. Alpha Xavier had his warriors surround the pack house and the trucks to try and prevent me from running again. My father was nowhere to be found, but the rest of the pack were outside bidding their good-byes. I tried my best to keep the tears from running down my cheeks but my heart was silently breaking. I was leaving everything that I had grown up with behind. I was leaving my home and I didn't know when or if I would ever come back.
Cade pulled away, wiping the tears off my cheeks. "No matter what, you need to call me everyday. And text me as much as you can. The minute I don't hear from you, I will come find you. I don't care if I have to rip every wolf to pieces. I will find you." Cade whispered in my ear before placing a soft kiss on my forehead. A low growl ripped through the air as I stepped away from my brother. When I looked up at him I saw his eyes were black from anger as he stared at the unknown person behind me. I slowly turned and saw Xavier glaring daggers at us. I quickly turned back to my brother and gave him one last hug before kissing his cheek.
"I love you Cade. I will let you know when we make it." I sniffled. I forced myself away from him and slowly made my way to the truck. Xavier opened the truck door and helped me inside. I stared out the window sadly as I forced back a sob as I saw the look of pure anguish on my brother's face. The truck lurched forward, before picking up speed and racing down the gravel road. Before long, the pack house was nothing more than a cloud of dust.
I turned back to face the road ahead of us. The trees blurred past as the night gave way to the early morning. The sky was different shades of pinks, purples, oranges, and creams. Any other day I would bask in the beauty of it, but today was far from cheerful. Yet again, I had to quickly wipe away the gathering tears that threatened to spill over. Not long after, my eyes drifted shut as I gave in to the welcoming darkness of sleep.
*********
I was jolted awake by the sudden stop of the vehicle. My eyes snapped open as I frantically looked around and realized I was at some gas station. My breathing picked up rapidly as I started to hyperventilate. I clawed desperately at the seat belt before warm hands grabbed me, forcing me still.
"Shh shh. Calm down Cassidy. It's ok. Breathe." A deep voice rumbled against me. I flinched away when sparks ignited where the strangers hands touched. Shadow started wagging her tail excitedly as the hands jerked away from my smoldering skin. She whimpered at the loss of contact before connecting her eyes with the person who touched her.
Xavier stood there staring at her in shock. "Mate...." he whispered.
I sat there confused. Shadow was right.....Xavier is my mate. And he recognizes it as well. I thought to myself before reality struck me. But he already has his Luna.....he can't have us both. I turned away from him sadly. Elise was his mate. His Luna. He wouldn't want me. For the hundredth time today she has had to fight back tears. This day was just getting worse and worse. Xavier remained silent before he cleared his throat.
"We're taking a break to get something to eat and fuel up. Um...." He trailed off. "Do you want anything?"
I remained silent until he sighed in defeat. "My men are watching the truck. I will be back shortly. Don't do anything stupid." And with that he closed the door. I remained curled up in a ball. The tears streamed down my cheeks freely as I cried my pain into my knees. After a while, I wiped my eyes and looked out the window to see Xavier walking back towards the truck.
I can't let this get to me....I want my mate but I will not try to take a man that doesn't want me. I thought sadly. I quickly wiped the tears from my face as I tried to recompose myself. Xavier climbed into the driver's seat and cranked the truck up. He sighed next to me and held out a plastic bag. I eyed it suspiciously before looking at him.
"You didn't tell me what you wanted so I just grabbed all my favorites......" He trailed off. "What you don't eat I will." And with that he threw the truck in drive and pulled back onto the road. I opened the bag with curiosity, trying to see what exactly he got. I couldn't help my squeal of excitement as I pulled a Mountain Dew from the bag along with a Reese's pieces and some Fritos.
Xavier glanced at me in amusement. His eyes dancing with laughter. "Hope you don't mind. As weird as it sounds, I don't ever eat Reese's without a Mountain Dew. Call me weird but it's the perfect combination."
I stared at him in shock. "You like Reese's and Mountain Dew as well? People always told me it was so weird to have them that way!" I exclaimed. Xavier chuckled lightly before his face grew serious.
"Cassidy?"
"You can call me Cass or Cassy. Only time I am every called by Cassidy is when I am usually in trouble." I replied. "Unless that is too formal for you.....I....I don't know how I am suppose to address you or if that is too formal." I rambled. Xavier took a deep breath before continuing to speak.
"Cassi....Cass," he corrected. "I...I know we are mates." I immediately froze. My heart started racing as panic set in. He's going to reject us. I whimpered to Shadow. She answered back with a whine as we waited to hear the words. When I found out we were mates, it never occurred to me that there was the possibility of rejection. I continued to wait silently for him to speak as he hesitated.
"I know we are mates....but..." I stopped him before he could continue. "If you're going to reject me then can you at least pull over so I can ride with somebody else....please. I can't bare to ride in the same vehicle as you afterwards..." I pleaded.
Xavier looked at me in shock. His mouth moved open and closed like a fish gasping for air. "Reject you? Why would you think I was going to reject you?"
I looked at him in confusion. "Well aren't you? You're married to Elise remember?" His face paled at the sound of her name.
"How do you know about Elise?" He whispered.
I looked away sadly. "I uh...I heard you and your beta talking about it when I um...ran away that night." I trailed off a little embarrassed. The truck grew silent as we both tried to figure out what to say next. After about 5 minutes I looked back at him.
"Who is she....."
Xavier let out a sigh before looking in his rearview window. By now it had grown dark out since leaving early this morning. Xavier's eyes clouded over before he looked back at me.
"We're stopping at a hotel for the night."
I nodded my head sadly. He purposely ignored the question which makes me wonder if he actually loves this Elise woman. Not long after, we were pulling into a little hotel outside of Knoxville, TN. Xavier came around to my side of the truck and opened the door for me. I quietly stepped down and kept my eyes focused on the ground as I followed him to the room.
As we stepped in, I turned around and was surprised to see him closing the door behind him. As he locked it, I cleared my throat trying to get his attention. He turned to look at me and raised his eyebrow.
"Um...are you...are you sleeping here too?" I asked a little awkwardly.
He rubbed the back of the his neck with his hand and looked up at me shyly.
"Um...yeah? I uh....didn't want you to try and run again." He finished, looking at the floor.
"I wasn't planning too. I don't even know how to get back home from here." I stated. I walked over to the bed and sat down. I took in my surroundings before my eyes settled on him. Since our talk in the truck, he has yet to answer my question about Elise and at this rate I didn't think he had any intention too.
"I was forced to accept her as my wife." Xavier said suddenly.
My head whipped up in surprise. "Forced? By who?" I asked.
Xavier came and sat down on the bed across from me. His face fell into his hands as rubbed his head.
"As blood thirsty as we sound, we are honestly a peaceful pack. The reason we ask for a pack member to trade is to ensure that we aren't double cross. Usually we only accept the beta's kids or even the gamma's. Very rarely do we accept and alpha for the fact that there poses a threat to my position." He paused before looking away from me awkwardly. "The only reason I accepted you was because uh...you were...you were a girl....So I didn't see it as a threat."
I glared at him, a bit offended. Before I could open my mouth, Xavier quickly stopped me.
"WAIT! I totally misworded that. What I meant was, your father said you were wolf-less. He told me you never trained so I knew you wouldn't challenge me."
I stared at him for a minute before sighing and nodding my head. "I do train...my brother made sure to train me so I could protect myself in my human form without having to rely on others to do so."
He nodded his head slowly before looking at me. He looked like he wanted to question me before he shook his head and continued his story.
"The other reason why we've been accepting such strong wolves is because....after my father died we were very low on warriors. He led a battle we were unprepared for and had over a thousand of our best warriors slaughtered. He, himself, was killed in that battle. Afterwards, I started training what men and women I had left and started recruiting more. After a while we built ourselves back up before I took out the pack that killed off the majority of my pack." He paused for a second before taking a deep breath. "The reason I am suppose to be marrying Elise is because I hadn't found my mate yet......my father wanted to make sure that I had an heir on the way and could be a fit alpha."
He finished and we sat in silence. He was forced to marry Elise because his father wanted a grand child. That was the only way he could become Alpha. But one thing still confused me.
"Wait...you said suppose to be marrying? You and Elise aren't married yet?" I asked confused.
Xavier nodded his head slowly. "Yeah....I....I just couldn't go through with it. Don't get me wrong, she's nice and all but I've always wanted my mate....but my mother won't accept anybody other than Elise."
I sat quietly in thought for a minute before looking back at him. "So....what do we do?" I asked.
His head jerked up in surprise at my question. "What do you mean?" He asked confused.
"We're mates....I know we don't know each other but I can't watch you be with another woman....I just can't"
Xavier stared at me for a second. Clearly thinking about the problem at hand. "I can't leave her...she's from an opposing pack. Leaving her would cause war for my pack. But I can't let you go either. Maybe we can be together in secret?" He looked at me hopefully. That hopeful look quickly disappeared though as I shook my head sadly.
"I'm sorry Xavier...but I refuse to be somebody's secret. That pain would be too much to bare knowing I'm sharing my mate with another woman. I'm sorry but I have to put myself first....." I trailed off. Tears started to spill down my cheeks at what I was about to do. "I, Cassidy Elaine Moon, reject you, Alpha Xavier Adam Bloodworth, as my mate."
Xavier shook his head before collapsing on the floor, on his knees. His wolf howled in pain, as he grabbed his chest. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he grabbed my legs.
"Please Cassidy, please I am begging you. Please don't do this. I will figure something out please." He begged. I shook my head in defeat.
"No Xavier...I've grown up being told I was worthless, that my mate wouldn't want me. And my father was right...I'm not good enough to even keep my own mate. If you want Elise then so be it, you have her." I fought back my sob. My wolf screamed at me to take back my rejection. She wanted her mate. Hell, I wanted my mate, but he wanted to hang on to another woman and I just can't accept that.
I pushed his hands away as I stood up. I couldn't be in the same room as him right now. It just hurt too much. As I tried to run to the door, I was grabbed by the wrist and shoved up against the wall. Both of my wrists were pinned against the wall as Xavier held me in place. His eyes were blazing blue in rage and desperation, as he stared at me angrily.
"I won't let you go Cassidy....I've waited so long for you...I'm not giving up so easily. I, Alpha Xavier Adam Bloodworth, do not accept your rejection." He stated loudly, his eyes never leaving mine.
My panting came through rapidly at the close proximity. My stomach started do flips and I could feel myself beginning to get wet as my wolf begged to be released and claim her mate. Xavier's nostrils flared as he scented the air. His eyes switched back and forth between blue and black.
"Does this arouse you sweetheart?" He growled out huskily. I let out a whimper as his knee spread my legs wider. He moved my wrist over so he could grasp both of them with one hand before running his fingers along my inner thigh. By now, I was full out panting as little whines of need escaped my lips. I gasped out as his finger grazed the outside of my panties. I felt myself grow even wetter at his touch as I tried to fight the strong hold he had on my wrists. His nose nuzzled my neck as he inhaled my scent.
"God sweetheart, I can smell your arousal. Tell me what you need baby. Let me pleasure you." He growled out. I gasped out as his fingers dipped into my soaked panties. He gently rubbed my throbbing c**t as I struggled in his hold. I couldn't hold back my moan as his finger dipped into my moist folds.
"Please....please. I...I...I can't take it...please!" I begged. He dipped another finger inside of me, earning another loud moan. His fingers moved slowly in and out as he teased me.
"Come on baby, tell daddy what you want." He whispered seductively. Before I even knew what I was doing, I was humping his fingers, trying my best to get as much in there as I could. I could feel the build up in my stomach as moan after moan escaped my lips. Xavier leaned forward and started nipping and suckling my neck, causing the tension in my stomach to grow. With one last thrust, I cried out in ecstasy as the euphoria took over her body. My head grew fuzzy as I felt my body go limp.
His hands gently released my wrists as he picked me up, bridal style, and brought me over to the bed. He gently laid me down and I felt the tears well up in my eyes with burning shame. I was angry at how my body betrayed me to him. I was ashamed that he had that much control over my body. I forcefully shoved him away and bolted towards the bathroom. Slamming the door, I locked it and slumped against the door and cried. Gentle knocks sounded on the door, but I refused to answer it.
"Cassidy...please open the door." He pleaded.
"Leave me alone Xavier! Haven't you hurt me enough!?" I cried.
"Baby..." He began.
"NO! DO NOT CALL ME BABY! I AM NOTHING TO YOU! GO CALL ELISE AND SWEET TALK HER! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" I screamed. Silence greeted me before the sound of retreating steps could be heard. I sobbed my heart ache out as I tried to figure out what to do. How could everything go so wrong in just a short amount of time?
