Susan and John pulled up to the River House later that night, and Barney came out to greet them. There was just time enough for a couple of ounces of liquid sleep inducer for each of them, after which they stripped down to their birthday suits, and fell into bed. A little bit of petting activity brought on that relaxation that precedes sleep. John selfishly excluded Barney from these activities.
It was four in the morning and way too early when a knock came on the door. John got out of bed and stomped toward the door to answer it, nearly succumbing to the urge to pick up his handgun on the way. When he opened the door, he found Charlie and a stranger standing in front of it.
