One of my favorite quotes I’ve ever heard is “Life is very short, death is very long.”
I believe that. Since I was pretty sure my life was about to end. Only eighteen years on this earth and now its all over. But the actual death is taking so long.
Still with all that time there was nothing I could do to stop it. I couldn’t save myself. And even worse. I couldn’t save her…
I was surprised that when I opened my eyes I was in my room. Hadn’t I just been in Jay’s car as it flipped over? Maybe it was just a horrible nightmare. Maybe today was actually Jay’s birthday.
But then why wasn’t I in bed with her? I spent the night, right? I picked up my phone. It was Monday. How when it was just Friday?
“Callan, you’re gonna be late for school!” Mom called.
