Lone Warrior

Chapter One

Karleigh's POV

Since birth I have been told how special I was. How special me and my wolf Iris are. If you didn't know, I belong to a pack of werewolves. We are a very secluded pack, not very well known. Sticking to only those inside our walls.

I quickly finished my morning routine, combing my thick brown hair out with my fingers. I pulled my day time hides on, it was pretty much a short skirt and what most females called a crop top. I slide my fur boots that Papa had made for my birthday on over my feet. I quickly applied my tribal paint on, since I was a warrior it consisted of a long red line down my face, two red lines under each eye and black paint smeared on my eyes.

I pridefully grabbed my deer skull headdress, adorned with beads passed down from the elders and feathers of the birds above. As I walk from my personal hut and start to approach my elders we hear a sound that chills us all to the core.

In the slight distance the sound of our attack horn slices right through the silence of dawn. Everyone stays still, awaiting the orders from the Alpha.

"Get to the center. No fight. Play dumb. Hope they pass." You could feel the panic dripping from my peers. No fighting? For once in my life I simply didn't agree with my Alpha, but a wolf couldn't disagree with his commands.

We all quickly made it to the center of our village, making sure all elders and children were right in the middle. All warriors stood around them, in a protective stanch.

"Leigh, I don't like this.. something feels off…" I heard Iris whimper from deep in my head. I could feel it. The air around us felt stiff, we we're waiting for the attack but hoped they would leave us be.

As if they knew what we we're thinking, suddenly a good two hundred wolves surrounded our village center, all snarling and snapping their jaws our way. A couple of the wolves parted like the sea as a group of men appeared.

"Ah, now what do we have here? Men, it seems we've stumbled upon a hidden gem." A deep voice bellowed from one of the men in the group. I'm assuming by his voice he is a beta.

"We mean you no harm, as long as we receive full cooperation from you all. Now please, will the leaders step forward." A second voice boomed. I felt my wolf wanting to take control and show them who they were dealing with.

"Don't. Keep your wolf and your powers hidden Karleigh." The Alpha whispered in my head. He's right. If they knew about my power's then surely they would use me for evil.

My Alpha and Luna grasp hands and step toward these stranger's. I watch with a keen eye, awaiting a chance to protect my pack if needed.

"Ah, you must be the Alpha and Luna. Please, everyone relax. My people and I are only here for one thing…" The man I assumed to be a Beta spoke. He stepped a few feet closer to my Alpha and Luna. "The only thing we want is your land."

It all happened too quickly. Before we even had the chance to realize what was said, the heads of the Alpha and Luna fell to the ground, their bodies right after. You could feel the entire pack break as we witnessed the death of our leaders. As swiftly as they fell, so did all of our men. The only ones standing were women and children. I could feel my wolf coming closer to the surface, willing to die for vengeance of those laying at my feet.

"Now, you are being given the chance to join us. Your men have fallen, even your elders. If you wish to live please submit now!" Roared the second man. The Alpha's last words to me repeated in my head, causing me and Iris both to whimper.

A few of the remaining women and children, including myself, got on our knees and showed our necks for submission. Those who still stood in defiance quickly fell, making the stench of death become worse. I watched as the remaining women stood to avenge the loved ones just killed, tears filling my eyes as I watched my once peaceful life crumble to the ground.

"WE CAN STOP THIS!! LET. ME. OUT!" My wolf was howling in my head. But I knew I had to protect myself from these evil men. Eventually everyone in my pack lay as a mass of bodies, all over the ground. My family, my friends.. Everyone is gone. I felt tears stream down my face, but I was glued to my spot. My neck out in submission.

"Well, pretty lady. You seem to be the only one willing to submit to us.. Cuff her, and bring her in. The Alpha will decide what her fate is then." The Beta said with a chuckle and a smirk. Before I could stop myself I could feel the fire coming from my fingers, I watched as it dripped around me in a circle, suddenly shooting up and making a bubble of fire around me. Next I felt the ground beneath me give way a bit allowing me too sink slightly.

"Sir, what is that!?" I heard from one of the other men. I sat and listened to the silence as I assumed they watched and waited for something else to happen.

Before I could even react water was being dumped all over my flame barrier, smothering me into the hole I created. Someone jumped on top of me, stabbing me with some kind of needle. As I started to fade to darkness I smelled the most amazing scent in my life. It couldn't be…
