Chapter Twenty-TwoOutside the house, Grant and Jack looked on as Charles made a big show of seeing his friends off. “Take good care of my car,” he shouted. He wanted to make sure the security men believed he'd be staying at home. “I'll see you tomorrow.”
Once Pete had backed out of the drive, Charles returned to the house and stood by the window until the car turned the corner at the bottom of the road. Before moving away, he smiled and waved at the two men in the parked car. Proceeding quickly through the house, he crept out of the back door, carefully locking it behind him.
