Josie grumbled about not having spoken to her grandparents. “That's a shame.” Andy glanced at Sarah. “Weren't they at home?” “Yes, they were,” she replied, climbing into the front seat. “But my father sounded very strange. He kept talking about us being on holiday. At first I thought he had gone mad and was about to say so, but then I heard a couple of faint clicks on the line. After what you had said earlier, I wondered whether perhaps his phone might be bugged and he was trying to stop me from saying too much. That's why I didn't dare let the children speak to him. They might have said something about you being with us.”
