Cronan’s POV   The flight was the longest one I’d taken in my entire life.     Immediately after setting it up, I’d called Xavier and, to my surprise, he picked up.  “Ciao.”     I’d planned on a better confrontation, a more resounding, hateful remark but all that came out of my mouth was:  “Where is she?”     “You sound well,” was his calm response.     My eyes were silver as I drove, a tremor of revulsion tearing through my body.  A growl, strangled, desperate, my voice whipped out like a whip.  “Xavier, I swear to the Gods—”     “She’s here.  I’ll have my driver pick you up from the airport.”     I tensed, glaring out the windshield.  That’s it?  He’d just . . . send his driver?  Easy.  This seemed too easy.  “Why did you—”     “Ciao for now.”  And he hung up.     Seething.
