Two Weeks Later “On behalf of the Circle of Kings,” Xavier stated formally, handing a contract containing all ten King’s signatures, “I am here to make a trade in solidarity with the Northern Tribe.” Brentik, knowing full well what to do, made a reach for the contract only for Xavier to pull it back just an inch, clicking his tongue. “Your end of the bargain, Chieftain,” was his callous reminder. Brentik had to force a stone-cold expression, pretending to be personally affronted by such a statement. It was a show they’d constructed, just for this moment. Reaching into his desk, he pulled out a box, opening it carefully. “I’ve written a full account of what I was taught about the necklace,” Brentik stated, pulling off the one he was wearing, nestling it neatly on top of the folded papers.
