17 years and 8 months ago, a small baby was abandoned just across the border to the Shadow Moon pack. No one knew where she came from. They had searched the woods for days, searching for a mother or family or anything, but nothing.
They took her in, gave her a name, Talia, and a purpose; she was an Omega and would serve the Alpha family when she came of age.
Talia grew more and more beautiful. Her green eyes became more and more prominent, her long, black hair was in perfect contrast with her white skin, her lips the color of the softest rose, and she was kind. Stella, the Alpha's daughter, was jealous of Talia's natural beauty and would always push her and steal her toys when they were children.
At six, Talia began working in the packhouse. She was to follow Miss Rosalind around, learn the skills and eventually start on her own. She learned to swipe dust, vacuum and clean the floors, make the beds, do the dishes and set the table. She did the same every day, and it became routine.
At ten, she learned how to cook, and also when she would be punished. She always remembered the day they started hitting her. She had burned the bacon slightly, not a lot, but it was enough for her to be slapped in the face by the Luna. Luna Elanor sneered at Talia, cursing the day they found her and promised if she ever burned the food again, she would be sorry.
The punishments got worse every day. Sometimes she got locked in her room in the cellar and would only be allowed one meal a day. Her long hair was matted and full of dirt, her pale skin was almost seen-through and her green eyes were dull.
"Get up you little b***h! The guest rooms have to be immaculate before the Alpha and his pack members arrive tomorrow!" Talia was woken up to the sneering of Stella. Alpha Jackson Blackthorn came to their pack the next day to meet Stella. He wanted to make her his Luna.
Talia quickly rose from her cardboard bed that she had outgrown years ago, and quickly made her way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast and set it out on the hot plates, knowing the other Omegas had already set the table.
She hurried to the west wing, where the guest quarters were. She vacuumed the beds before putting on fresh linen in Egyptian cotton. The duvets and pillows were of the softest dove, there were flowers in every room, and in the Alpha's bedroom she had made sure the mini kitchenette was fully stocked with food, fresh fruit and berries. Exhausted and starving, she made her way down to the kitchen for something to eat, only to find the fridge locked with a chain. Talia's eyes widened as she realized she wouldn't be allowed to eat before at least the next day.
A hand connected to the back of her head and sent her tumbling into the wall before hitting the ground. "Food is only for Omegas and other pack members. You're not even Omega. You are nothing. Consider this a warning: if I ever catch you trying to steal food after breakfast, I will have you tossed to the rogues!" Stella stood over Talia with a smug grin on her face. Talia bowed her head in respect and kept her eyes down. "Yes, Miss Stella." Her response was mechanical. Automatic. She had said that sentence so many times after all. Stella turned on her heel and left the kitchen, tossing her long, blonde hair over her shoulder.
The next day, Talia was up early. She set the table and hurried to the kitchen and prepared breakfast. She managed to make herself a ham and cheese sandwich and almost groaned as the food hit her belly.
She ate fast, not wanting to be punished if she was, and made her way to the east wing: Alpha quarters.
She knocked on Beta Aaron's door, got no response and entered. She quickly vacuumed his floors before going over with a mop, changed the sheets and threw away his garbage before placing a fresh trash bag in the bin. She quickly exited and did the same routine in the other rooms before she went back to her own room. Tomorrow, she will be 18. She could beg the visiting Alpha to take her with him to his pack, but the thought of being in a pack with Stella made her stomach churn.
She washed her face, trying to get rid of the stains on her cheek. She brushed her fingers through her hair, trying to untangle it, but to no use. Her hair was too matted. More than once, Luna Elanor had threatened to cut it clean off, make her go around bald. She had pleaded with all she had for them not to cut it off, and they had laughed at her and given her another punishment.
Stella comes into her room, her dress is floor length, red, tight and very revealing. There is a slit going from her ankle and almost straight to her... "You are not ruining this today. You will work as an Omega, keep your head down and your mouth shut! One word from you, one sound, anything, and I will make sure you will never see the outside of a cell again!" Stella sneered at Talia, and Talia nodded. "Yes, Miss Stella." She followed Stella to the kitchen and started preparing dinner. Roast, baked potatoes, salmon, pork, chicken, steak, every luxurious meat they had. Talia prepared each dish to perfection, and the slow roasted pig had taken the longest to prepare and had been slow roasting for two days and had finally been cooked. They took it down and placed it on a large tray with roasted vegetables. The meal was enough to make her stomach growl and her mouth water, but Talia knew she had to ignore it.
Just after all the dishes had been placed on the table, the visiting pack arrived. Talia heard men and women talking as they made their way from the entrance hall to the dining room. Talia made herself small and moved into the shadows, only emerging to fill wine glasses or take away plates.
As she grabbed Alpha Jackson's and Stella's plate and now had a large stack of plates in her hands, Stella extended a perfectly manicured leg and tripped her, making Talia fly to the ground. The plates were tossed into the air, and as the shards shattered around her, some of them were trapped in her palms and her knees. She held back her tears. This was not the time to show weakness. "Stupid girl! So clumsy! These plates are so expensive, and old! How dare you destroy them all?" Stella's high-heeled foot stepped on Talia's hand, pressing it further into the porcelain shards, making them go further into her palm. Talia hisses in pain as they embed deep in her palm, but she dare not make a sound. The sound of a chair scraping against the floor as someone stands up abruptly fills the silence. Heavy footsteps move closer, approaching them. Talia's eyes were fixed on the floor. Someone crouches down and grabs her chin. She lifted her head and stared into a pair of deep blue eyes. The man smiled at her. "Are you alright, miss?" His voice was like music to her ears. Soft and deep. Talia gave Stella a scared look and gasped when her palm was pressed even harder into the broken porcelain. The man's eyes follow Talia's gaze and his lips press to a thin line. "Get your foot of her hand. Can't you see she's in pain?" The man's gaze shot daggers at Stella and her grin faltered. She removed her foot and sat back down. The man reached a hand down for her, and she hesitantly looked at it before dropping her gaze again. "Look at me. Can you talk?" His velveteen voice continued talking to her, and Talia nodded. Yes, she could talk. She just didn't want the punishment for doing it. He kept his hand extended for a little before dropping it. Sighing, he stepped closer to her and wrapped his hands around her upper arms, gently lifting her from the ground. Blood trickled down her hands, and he was coated with it in seconds, but he didn't seem to care.
The stranger lifted her effortlessly into his strong arms and left the dining room. Talia's eyes met Stella's, and the look Stella gave her made a shiver of fear run down her spine. Stella was going to kill her for gaining the attention of the stranger.
When they exited the dining room and were away from prying eyes, the stranger looked at her, his eyes warm. "What's your name, sweetheart?" Talia looked a little dumbfounded before finding her voice. "I...I'm T... Talia." She cowered a little in his arms as she spoke, but he just... smiled at her. "Talia. That's a very pretty name. My name is Jackson Blackthorn. I'm Alpha of the Silver Moon pack."
