Chapter 3
“Is there anything we can do?” Logan says to the two remaining Councilman. Neither responds.
“I SAID IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO?!” Logan yells as he slams his fists on the table. “You two were in on this? That councilman THREATENED MY MATE! IF HE WEREN’T A COUNCILMAN, I WOULD RIP HIS THROAT OUT!”
“Alpha Logan, please, we had no idea he would threaten your mate. We will try to find a solution.” says Councilman Jackson says.
“TRY? You WILL find a solution to this.” Logan says through gritted teeth trying to control himself. I can see his wolf is so close to the surface and try to calm him down.
“Lo, why don’t you go take a walk. Liam and I have this.”
“I don’t want to walk; I want to rip someone's head off!” Logan says as he punches a hole through the wall and slams the door behind him as he leaves.
“Is there any kind of loophole here for us, gentleman?” Liam say diplomatically. He lays his hands out on the table to show he means no harm.
“It may be possible to stop the union if Miss Rose were to find her true fated mate, but seeing as she hasn’t these past 5 years...” Councilman Roth trails off.
“It isn’t likely I will find him soon enough.” I finish the sentence for him feeling defeated. If I haven't found my mate yet, it’s unlikely I will ever find him.
“Well then gentleman, I think this meeting has come to an end. I will be happy to escort you out...” Liam says standing and gesturing to the door.
“One last thing Beta Liam. As you know we have always had a separate New Moon Ball for the Northern and Southern Territories, but with the High Councilman wanting to unite the North and the South we have agreed to hold a joint Ball here in the Southern Region, especially since he wants the union of Miss Rose and Alpha Greyson announced in front of all of the North American packs. We expect no fighting or foolishness during the ball otherwise there will be harsh punishments.” says Councilman Roth as he stands.
“But there are quite a few enemy packs from the North, you expect us to stand by and do nothing?” I ask outraged.
“I do Miss Rose. I expect we will meet again soon” he says while Liam escorts them out.
As soon as the room is empty, I let out all the rage I have been holding in this entire meeting. I throw every chair in the office and kick through the door. As soon as I am out of the pack house, I shift and run to the woods trying to clear my head.
There are two packs that aren’t enemy packs in the North, maybe our mate is in one of them? Isla says in my head.
It is highly unlikely our mate is in a Northern pack; It has never happened. The Moon Goddess doesn’t seek to take you too far from home. I say, shutting her down
We have never met Alpha Greyson, maybe he is our true fated, even if he is an enemy.
Not likely, Isla. His father killed my parents. The Moon Goddess couldn’t be so cruel.
I shift back and try to block out Isla because the thought of Alpha Greyson being my true fated mate makes me sick to my stomach.
When I arrive back at the pack house, I run upstairs to gather my things but Logan and Kaela are sitting on my bed holding each other. Kaela loosens herself from Logan and they both look at me sympathetically. Kaela stands up and hugs me so tight I can’t breathe.
“Kaela I’m fine, really. And all that squeezing can’t be good for the pup” I say looking for an excuse to get out of the sympathy. I don’t want anyone feeling sorry for me.
“You told her without me?” Kaela asks Logan accusingly.
“Not on purpose! She guessed!” Logan says, now clearly on the defensive.
Kaela rounds back to me when she looks at me with such intensity. “You are saving my life and the life of my pup and I can never repay you. I will devote every hour I have to finding you a way out of this. I love you so much” she says with tears falling down her face. Logan automatically holds her and whispers for her to calm down. He has so much love in his eyes when he looks at her and I can’t stand it. I have been robbed of that. I love my brother but I can’t be here right now.
“I have to go. I’ll be late for my shift at work. I guess I am going to have to quit now that ...” I trail off as I grab my things.
"Wait, Rose." Logan says. He sits Kaela on the bed and stops me from leaving the room. "That bastard Greyson is going to be here tomorrow. Please don't let him stay with you at your apartment. Come stay here at the pack house. It will be so much better if you were here so we can figure a way out of this together and I can keep an eye on you and Alpha Greyson."
"I never intended to let him stay at my apartment. I will be back as soon as I pack some stuff for the week." I say and I can't keep the disgust on of my words.

When I get to my little apartment just outside of pack lands, I throw down my bag and flop on my bed. I can only afford this one-bedroom apartment because of my inheritance from my parents' death. I could never afford this off of my money I make bartending. Even if it’s a small condo, the ocean view costs a lot.
I wanted to be out of the pack house so badly after my mom and dad died but I couldn’t leave because Logan needed me. He found Kaela not too long after and I finally felt it was time to go. The pack house was so depressing for me. I love my pack but I couldn’t stand being there anymore. Everything reminded me of my mom with her beautiful smile or my dad who was stern, but kind. And here, I can live in peace and watch the ocean whenever I want to. It helps me feel free and now I have to give it all up.
When I arrive at The Lazy Moon bar downtown it’s already busy. s**t I think to myself, how am I going to quit in the middle of a rush. I jump behind the bar and make drinks and conversate with the regulars. I love this bar. I love how fast paced it is and most of the people in it.
Once the rush is over, I let Amanda take over the bar so I can talk to Mark the owner. Amanda happily takes over and starts chatting with a wolf who is eyeing her. Amanda is a human and she doesn’t realize how many wolves come to this bar on a daily basis. Mark is a wolf from our pack and named the bar The Lazy Moon so wolves knew it was a safe place.
I sit Mark down and explain my situation. When I start seeing pity in his eyes, I stop him.
“Don’t pity me, Mark. I am doing what's best for the pack.”
“I do feel sorry for you, and sorry for myself.” Mark says sadly.
“Sorry for yourself? Why?” I ask.
“Because I just lost my best bartender.”
