Thirteen minutes later, they have finally taken our orders and they have stopped asking me questions, now just talking around me like I'm some friend of theirs that they take notice of but don't really include. I'm hating every second of this.
Luckily, my phone rings a while later and I answer it immediately when I see it's Gray. I desperately need a distraction before I start counting molecules in the air as well.
"Hi, Gray!"
Immediately the two girls stop talking and turn to look at me.
"Hey, Mid. I saw you hanging out with Gemma and Regina Are you okay? Are you losing your mind? Should I be worried?"
"Pretty much, no and yes. I'm answering your questions in order," I sigh, "But I'll be back in a bit more, I'm eating."
"Tell me where you are, eat quickly and I'll pick you up to go home and fulfill the deal," he orders, and I hear a lot of background noise, "Are they being mean to you? Because I can go tell them some things."
The girls hear that and roll their eyes.
"Okay, I'm at Yoko and it's pretty close to BM," I inform her and Gemma's eyebrow rises so high it disappears into the hair that falls across her forehead. That makes me feel good, if she can be mean to me then that gives me the right to be mean to her, "Don't worry about me, I'll be better after our... plans. I'm excited."
Sweet victory. I have finally mastered the art of being passive aggressive. I don't love it, I won't do it with other people, but I like that Gemma understood the hidden meaning in my words and that they bothered her. Grayson says he'll come at me in about fifteen minutes and hangs up on me.
"I hope you don't mind my leaving, Gray is kind of pushy when he wants something," I give a small chuckle and wave my hands for the waitress to put my sushi in front of me, "I guess you understand, right?"
"Sure," Gemma replies, calming her face as if she's put on a mask of indifference. However, I can smell what she's feeling, "We've been in this weird relationship for almost two years now. I know what he's like when he wants something and can't wait to have it. I know him too well."
"Two years is a long time. It's cute that you love each other so much," I smile and start eating, not caring that they still aren't moving.
By the time Gray appears down the street and beckons me from outside to come out, I know 4 new things.
The first is that I love sushi, the second is that Matthew and Regina are in a serious relationship now, the third is that Gemma is supposedly going on a date with another alpha she's 'very much in love with' (that was a very desperate lie, to be honest). And the fourth is that ten minutes ago when we all got a twitter notification and it was from the Redboxinggloves account, they shared a knowing look, which gives me enough evidence to write their names on the suspect list.
"It was a pleasure sharing this meal with you," I lie without caring if they can smell it’s a lie, getting up and leaving a bill on the table.
"See you later, Angel," Gemma says with a mocking tone, "You're fun. I think we'll be good friends."
"That sounds good," I lie once more and get out of there as fast as possible. When I reach Gray, I hug him really tight, "Thanks for saving me, these girls are so mean to me."
"Why didn't you tell me that? I'm going to go ask them what the hell is going on in their heads," he starts to try to go to them but I don't let him, "Mid, I'm not going to let them be mean to you. I don't care about Regina, she's always been a piece of shït, but Gemma's not like that."
"Don't do that, I want to be friends with them," I tell him, and he makes a confused face, "Not because I like them, but they obviously want something from me. Maybe I can get something from them too. Something tells me they have something to do with Redboxinggloves."
"Oh... oh," he smiles, "My little Sherlock, you want to be a spy."
"Sherlock wasn't a spy, Gray, he was a..."
"I know, he was a ninja," he turns me around and puts an arm around my neck to start walking with me, “I hope you get something out of those two harpies. But if they keep being mean I'm going to do something about it."
"Like what?"
"I'll tell Gemma's father that his daughter is being mean to my friend,” he says, as if it's a big threat, "And Regina... I don't know. I'll come up with something for her, though maybe you did enough by sending her brother to jail."
"He deserved it and I don't regret it," I murmur, managing to loosen his grip on my neck to walk more comfortably. Maybe I should stop bringing such uncomfortable shoes to work, "And they're not really mean to me, they just think I'm stupid or something, they act in a way I don't like, like they're secretly making fun of me all the time. Plus, they just ask me stuff about you.”
"Maybe Gemma is jealous, she's been acting really weird lately."
"It's a fact that she's jealous. It's a very obvious fact. And I..." I take a breath and lift my gaze a little to look at his face and apologize with my eyes, "I may have made her more jealous by implying some things. On purpose."
"Really?" He asks with a smile, "I think I like that she’s jealous. You should imply more things. Gemma is usually like a robot, I can't believe she's showing so many emotions these days."
"Maybe she fell in love with you," I inquire and Grayson snorts, shaking his head immediately, "Why don't you think so?"
"Because she wouldn't fall in love with someone like me," he laughs outrageously and denies again, "No one would. Or, well, maybe a really stupid omega. But I don't like omegas or stupid people so I'd send her packing. I guess I'm going to die alone."
"But that's not..."
"Or maybe I could stay with her to get an ego boost, like Lion does with Elena. So, what if that stupid omega is hot?" he asks himself, "Maybe I'd give her a chance. Or maybe not, stupid omegas are horribly boring. But if she's got, you know, nice t**s, I might find myself needing to be with her, just for that... then it all comes down to Brains or t**s? God, I don't know. Okay, let's change the subject, I'm putting myself in a very difficult hypothetical situation."
"Okay..." I mutter. I don't know if I should mention the obvious fact that he has self-esteem issues or the fact that he single-handedly changed the subject three times, "How did it go today?"
"Bad, I suffered a lot. But Lion thinks I have a chance, so I guess it went okay," he replies, "I'm really tired. I just want to lie down, watch your video and go to sleep."
"And you won't send me yours?"
"I don't even have energy to blink, Angel. I've been working out for hours," he groans, putting his weight against me, "I couldn't get an erection even with Viagra right now. My blood flow is nonexistent. And I don't want to show you my flaccid dïck, it's not pretty."
"How sad, I really wanted to see it. You'll have to send it to me after the fight."
"First thing Sunday morning. I promise. And after that we can go watch a movie or something. I need some fun," he demands and we arrive at the building. Felix is sitting on the couch with his phone in his hand as usual. He looks up at us and puts down his phone, "Hi, Carrot."
"Hi, New Kid," he greets him with much admiration in his voice, and ignores me, "Did you see what they wrote on..."
"Ugh, shut up already, I can't stand you," Grayson hushes him, raising a hand towards him. Poor Felix deflates with disappointment, but Gray heads for the stairs as if he doesn't care, "Come on, Mid. Walk."
I do as he asks but I can't help but feel bad for the poor ginger, it's obvious he looks up to Gray. He even called him by his professional nickname and everything. How sad.
"Okay, it's time," Grayson says when we get to the door, "Put on something nice and then take it off for me. Make sure you show your t**s and if you can, make your skin look red in places, I like that. Pinch yourself."
"I won't do that," I whine in a whisper, "And don't raise your voice."
"I'm sorry," he whispers too, "But do as I asked or I won't be happy."
I don't answer anything, just roll my eyes and walk into the apartment, closing the door in his face. However, I know I'm going to do it because I want to do something he likes.
